Oklahoma loses out, for now; Semi, Model 3, Model Y will be built in Texas, too
Tesla will build its $1.1 billion Cybertruck factory near Austin, Texas, ending an intense competition with neighboring Oklahoma, the electric carmaker's chief executive, Elon Musk, announced late on Wednesday.
The 2,000-acre site on the Colorado River is about 13 minutes from downtown Austin, Musk said during Tesla's second-quarter earnings call.
"It's going to be an ecological paradise ... open to the public," he said.
Musk said Tesla would consider site runner-up Tulsa, Oklahoma, for future production.
Musk and his team met earlier this month with officials in both states, which were competing to land the plant.
Tesla's new Cybertruck and its heavy-duty Semi truck, as well as the Model 3 and Model Y cars for eastern North America, will be built at the Texas plant, Musk said Wednesday.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott welcomed the news. "Tesla is one of the most exciting and innovative companies in the world, and we are proud to welcome its team to the State of Texas," he said in a statement.
Oklahoma's secretary of commerce, Sean Kouplen, in a statement said the state would actively pursue Tesla's supplier base to persuade them to locate in Oklahoma.
Both states offered hefty incentive packages, including tens of millions of dollars in tax breaks, in efforts to woo what is now the world's most valuable automaker, as measured by stock market capitalization.
Tesla told Texas officials the plant would create at least 5,000 jobs, while Oklahoma officials were told about the creation of at least 7,000 jobs in the near term and up to 20,000 positions down the line.

Tesla formally wins final environmental approval to open Gigafactory Berlin
The wait is finally over. After a long process that saw delays, controversies, and other drama, Tesla Gigafactory Berlin has won its final environmental approval from Germany. An official document confirming the update was published by the State of Brandenburg, outlining the next steps that the electric vehicle maker needs to do to start vehicle production in its Germany-based electric vehicle factory.
As per the state’s press release, the approval for Giga Berlin covers several activities, such as the production of uptown 500,000 vehicles per year. The approval also includes battery cell production activities within the Giga Berlin complex, which should allow Tesla to manufacture its in-house cells from within Germany.
“The project, which was approved with the 536-page decision, includes the plant for the production of up to 500,000 vehicles per year, aluminum smelting plants and an aluminum foundry, plants for surface treatment, heat generation, and storage. The facility also includes battery cell production, an operational wastewater treatment plant, a fire brigade equipment house, a high-bay warehouse, as well as laboratories and workshops,” the press release read.

I think going forward we are going to see clones of Tesla's factories; VW, Ford, GM and others have talked about or are in the process doing just that. Of course the markets don't give a toss about this (markets have gone full clown world) even though it's massive news. Tesla just increased their production capacity by 500,000 in the short term, longer term probably 1,000,000.
BTW this doesn't mean Berlin-Brandenburg is a go, I think there are still other final approvals needed before vehicles can be sold from the factory.

I was starting to think Berlin would never start production. Now all Tesla has to do is mass produce the 4680's which feels like that will never happen. If it does this will be me:
i think you guys have drunk entirely too much koolaid about these 4680 batteries. now if you told me these 4680 batteries meant no further reliance on chinese minerals or manufacturing, that would be a huge deal.
4680's are big deal the only question is if Tesla can make them at scale.
I don't believe it. Deliveries of maybe 200 cars. I won't be dancing on YT no one wants to see that lol.

China is rich in natural resources it's inevitable we get raw materials from the country (I'd rather we didn't). Plus China manufactures the most batteries by far Toyota, GM, Volvo, VW etc. are using made in China batteries.

Also, Austin will only have 4680 Model Ys. They will not build 2170 versions from that factory.
