Default Crown coming in the fall

Just read a Toyota leak confirming the Toyota Crown coming to US this fall, do you guys think the Lexus counter part maybe a GS replacement? Something to sit aside or segment up from the ES?

Don't get me wrong I love the Crown, but why are they bringing it over? Camry, Avalon, and Mirai still exist. Are they trying to slot it above the Avalon/Mirai? Where's Carmaker1 he could debunk this

I thought I heard that the Crown name was going to be used on a new CUV/SUV, not a sedan. I'd have to go back and look though.

yeah using that name for a suv is still a plausible scenario. Sedan is highly unlikely. If that is true what type of SUV will it be ? Doesn’t Toyota already have suv in every segment. Maybe a FJ replacement who knows😀

Maybe sedan takes spot of Avalon and provides Lexus an A7 type coupe.

Interesting to see this. Toyota is moving Lexus ES back to Japan only production…..so definitely could see this perhaps being the Toyota version of the same car.

That’s what I read too! The Crown sedan was going to be killed in place of a Crown CUV/SUV.

If there isn't a segment for it, they'll invent one. The Corolla Cross and Venza are both examples of that.

Hopefully it is in fact a new sedan instead of another boring suv crossover. It could certainly be a halo sedan above the Camry that perhaps the Avalon wasn't able to truly achieve (though I liked the last version).

It would be outright silly for them to introduce an Avalon replacement when Toyota themselves cancelled the Avalon due to shrinking sales.

I heard that the Crown name will be used on a Highlander FWD-based SUV chassis.
Sounds ridiculous to me.

Yep - what a way to ruin a legendary name.
Another FWD CUV…

There is no legacy of the Crown name in the United States. Not legendary In any way. Nobody really cares.

People who are enthusiasts care.
The Crown is an important model for JDM fans and Toyota loyalists. Now you see more and more imports in the US, just go to a local Cars&Coffee gathering.

By your reasoning, The general public doesn’t care if a 4Runner all of a sudden became FWD CUV either.

I agree that’ it has legendary status in Japan. But it has to evolve to survive the name. Hopefully it will be a premium 4wd crossover
