It's a fact that global emissions are killing off high-displacement engines. It's not up for debate like the future of EV's. Nobody bought the LS460 because it had a V8? Puh-lease.
I am talking Toyota scrapping V8's. They weren't very big sellers but clearly it was needed for the LS to have decent success although the lack of a V8 is not the only issue with the LS. Toyota did not put the 8 cylinder in many cars, many of the cars they put it in did not sell that well or sold poorly, SC430, RC-F, GS-F, GS430/460, LC500 but that also had to do with how high they were/are priced. They seem to think a turbo V6 can take the place of a V8 but that clearly did not work for the LS but it does not seem like they care or learned the lesson. I don't think they will have as much success with the Landcruiser or Tundra losing its V8 but it seems it will be replaced by a turbo V6. They may still do a new turbo V8, it seems to be a on and off thing, they built one to test for the LC-F so who knows. I think other companies like GM, Ferrari, or Mercedes who sell a lot more V8's aren't going to give it up any time soon no matter what they declare, we will see, if there is a market for them, especially in the US and some other markets without these stupid regs I think they will find a way to keep them going.
