22mpg on highway at 75mph is not bad at all for a truck!! I towed an 7k-8k lbs enclosed trailer 1,300 miles with a 2024 non hybrid 1794 and I was impressed. Never hunted for gears and pulls effortlessly even on hills. The OEM trailer brake controller worked pretty well (gain set to 5.5). At 0 miles to empty + another 10-12 miles give or take there’s 3 gallons left in its 32 gallon tank. Between fuel stops you can feel a lot of heat coming from under the hood from the turbos working. Has the latest amenities like wireless CarPlay, huge infotainment screen, pano roof, 360 camera including 3rd brake light camera where you can see your bed while going down the road. I’m somewhat interested in how much better the hybrid model tows with its extra torque and hp.
The fit/finish wasn’t the best. There a gap on the right rear bumper corner that’s apparently somewhat common from visiting auto car washes. The right side actually kind of easily popped out on the right side of the truck and I snapped it back in. There wasn’t too much I didn’t like about it. If it was just as reliable and bulletproof as the 2nd and 2.5 gen, I probably would have one sitting in my garage. OnIy time will tell. Not a fan of the fake sound that’s pipped in. Sounds pretty bad imo.
a number of posts around that they are eating up front main bearing (seems to be the same one most of the time) and requiring short block to be replaced

Which is why I’ve passed on them for now. My local dealership had 3 of them in the shop at the same time for this issue.

It's very odd since you would think they would have no issues, it's not like they are driving a supercharger like the Audi 3.0 engines did. If it's an oil pressure issue then that's also shocking even with a variable pump since once again this tech is 10 years old as a whole

And these are absolutely EVERYWHERE around here. Like it seems as much as domestics almost.
A lot of people are unaware. Toyota upgraded the fuel requirements for their EPA testing. There is also additional maintenance to the hybrid and turbos as well.
As Toyota made their new Tundra more advanced (complicated and difficult for DIY maintenance), fuel efficient (not enough considering the long wait), and rugged looking (ugly), the more I'm liking the simplicity and reliability of my 2001 Tundra. Dropping $60K on a new one seems risky at best, and possibly ludicrous considering the new-model pitfalls of major engine issues and generally poor fit-and-finish!
It's beyond belief Toyota dropped the ball so badly in the design and execution of this long-awaited, 3rd-gen offering. Me no happy!
I looked into the failure of the main bearing a bit and the fact it's the first time? Toyota has ever done a bedplate type bottom end is fascinating. I am most shocked at the apparent oil starvation problem at the front end of the crank, they look insanely burnt like the car just doesn't have oil in it at all.
Like I knew quality has gone down badly with Toyota and this engine was going to be a bit of a failure but damn this is impressively bad!

When I was towing with the 2024 non hybrid model, at fuel stops you can feel excessive amount of heat coming from the engine bay just walking by it. I ran regular gas for 1,300+ miles. I’m sure it had regular when I got it. Wonder how much difference premium would’ve helped with fuel mileage and power.
Hey @Striker223 Didn’t you suggest to run premium in the 5.7? I’ve always ran regular. My friend will run premium in his 5.7 when he tows otherwise 87. We run premium in our LX 570

Did the coolant temp gauge rise at all? Or was it just giving off heat?
How much easier the V8 was, it wouldn't be hot like THAT.
