So if it's true that the 5.7 is "producing 90% of the 403 ft/lbs torque at 2200 RPM," that's 363 lb-ft at 2200 RPM versus the hybrid's 583 lb-ft at 2400 RPM or the non-hybrid's 479 lb-ft at 2400 RPM. Like I said, I love my 5.7, but I can't in good conscience call that "not really all that different."
Spool delay. That number is only if you have the engine already building boost at idle and slam full WOT. If you are already moving it takes 2-3 seconds to spin up or you need to be holding a higher gear.
I have no idea how they are getting such horrid mpg, my 17 ram averaged 21 for me. The sequoia gets 17 average even.....I would think a hybrid 6 would get at least 25 average but apparently not. I test drove a new sequoia with the hybrid max system and it was okay, nothing incredible vs the Range Rover and extremely laggy vs the Audis
, but I am lost as to why people have such an issue with this V6TT..
warning .. negative rant
Spoiler
I think the overall issue is with the whole package so the V6TT is just something to scapegoat.
It really is great that Toyota finally added a full boxed frame as well as self levelling rear air among other things. But, argue the justification of why there is a detuned version of the Tundra as well as the full HP version? Like how can the Tacoma and the 4Runner both offer full time 4WD and part time 4WD where Toyota Motor Corp is unable to offer at minimum auto-4WD like GM did way back on 1998? The first and second Gen Sequoia has both 2WD and a Torsen full time 4WD mode in the same transfer case..
ok..so I look at things today added that make really question the value…active front shutters..a power under vehicle aero spoiler.. why does the hybrid version have a locking gas door whereas the gas only version does not?
I can’t wrap my head around why a temporary full size spare is on the lower models whereas the higher trims have a permanent full size spare. WTF
I really question the value of the hybrid. And more weight. Batteries are a wear item. Inverter has a coolant interval. There actually is a traditional starter that only used when the temp gets to zero. Because of the turbo, spark plugs now have to be changed more frequently. 6000lb curb weight
finally…no tow hooks
All that said, it’s just too bad things have become so much more complicated. It would have been so cool if it had a V8
Toyota with their tundra, it makes me wonder sometimes why they do things with this truck.

They're averaging 17 mpg and I am averaging 11.5 with my V8. More power, massive more torque, and far better fuel economy. As an owner of the 5.7, I fully get the love for this V8 engine, but I am lost as to why people have such an issue with this V6TT. I know a few people who moved from the 5.7 to this new Tundra, and they all love them so far. I'll make the switch eventually.
11.5mpg. What size wheels and tires? Stock suspension?
Various roadtrips over the years when I used to care about mpg. If I listened to the internet, my fuel pump would’ve been toast years ago. I reset my trip A after fillup I knew how many miles I could get on a tank of gas. The day I bought it, I averaged 19mpg driving 211 miles home from the dealership.

We still have 2 left. I’m not opposed to the new V6 TT platform but I would like to see some high mileage ones out there first and what issues if any they encounter. I’ve refrained from test driving one in fear I may fall in lust with it. 🫣
I definitely don't get that kind of mileage with mine. I can get 17 or 18 on an all highway trip, but only 11-13 around town, where the bulk of my driving is. While towing our trailer, I get from about 6 mpg to 9 or so.

Are you on the Tundras forum? There's some good info on there. A while back someone noted they were already over 100k on their 3rd gen.
Like you, I'm a bit hesitant to drive one out of fear I'll end up driving it home...
Oh go test drive one, it's not mind blowing if you have ever had anything that's halfway fast lol!
It's really nothing about speed or power, at least for me. I understand them to be a lot quieter inside than mine, and the tech is certainly much more advanced than in my Tundra. The ability to squat the rear to ease in hitching up my trailer would be huge, not to mention the additional camera views. I also would love the pano roof. The ride is reportedly much better as well. So it's all of those kinds of things adding up.
i got out and sold my early 22 platinum build and decided to keep the supercharged 08. i'll start by saying, i work from home and don't need a truck everyday. just need one for the house and when i need to do truck things. for me i was getting 15-16 before leveling. after leveling i was getting 13 consistently. the primary driver for me to move out of it was i wanted a compact suv. kids get motion sensitive and just cldnt take the rear seat of the 22 even in comfort mode. the second reason is piece of mind. if you look at the forums - 22, 23 and even 24 owners are experiencing main bearing failures requiring a engine rebuild. parts are backordered so taking some owners months to get truck back.
granted everyone is saying this is just 1% of trucks, there's no data proving or disproving the scope. for me, i couldnt take not having the piece of mind to go into the boonies with the truck. sure it's under warranty and an engine fixed under warranty is cool but having a piece of mind with my 2nd gen was always there. in fact, it's been 16 years and my starter just went out last week. first mechanical failure in 16 years.
so bye 22 and forever 08. i might try again in the future when the kids are out of the house.
Hope you folks that own a 3rd gen have a long and healthy run with the truck....

The new non hybrid is only .3 seconds faster 0-60 than the 5.7 V8. With 80 more lb/ft torque. .3 is worth mentioning but not a significant difference. I’ve seen 0-60 times also not much better with the hybrid.
