I still can't get over the lack of tow hooks on a 4x4 pickup. What were they thinking?

Agree, that's kind of a shocking omission. I'm sure there's a recovery hook underneath there though. Two meaty tow hooks, doesn't look like it.

FWIW my LX has both tow hooks and recovery hooks. For some reason I'm told to use the rear hook over the actual rear trailer hitch if I'm pulling someone out of a ditch or being pulled out. I have no idea why.

I have to agree. That's an odd omission.

I think I saw a video where an owner got under his and there wasn't a recovery hook. You'll have to hook onto a control arm which is less than ideal.

I guess Toyota says they did this for aerodynamic reasons. Maybe they should have toned down the brick grille instead.

.
It took Toyota 14 model years of the outgoing Tundra to figure out they didn’t need tow hooks. Super cheap on Toyota to leave them out.

You know how we sometimes have banned topics here on CL because we can't be nice to each other?

The missing tow hooks conversation is getting close to that over on the Tundras forum... I'm not touching it.

It is a tad unusual for a truck/suv to not have emergency tow hooks. My 21 4R has them hidden behind some cladding and one would need to remove some clips to expose them. My 04 are out in the open. I am really surprised Toyota omitted them. For the TRD Off Road and Pro models, should have them standard. I don’t think I have ever seen a Toyota truck or SUV without them. LX600 has them.

If one took their TRD PRO off road…you get stuck…how does someone help pull the TRD PRO out?
