Yes I agree it's pitiful they are using fake wood. Probably trying to look green, though it turns me and a lot of others like me off. Lexus has never used fake wood, guess it didn't take much to buckle under the pressure.
You're stuck with the fake stuff, there's no real wood option at all on the new GX???
There is basically no reason to buy a Lexus. They are nowhere near the Germans and really no better than Lincoln or Buick.
lol, the sky is falling. here's a couple of reasons:
1) lexus vehicles cost substantially less than their german competition
2) lexus vehicles are very reliable
lexus has always done its own thing though, not really having parity to german models in features, or scope of offerings. no real equivalent to amg, m, etc. the lfa was a wild unicorn for one year. it almost seems like toyota is just very conflicted about what to do with the lexus brand. remember that for companies like mercedes and bmw, their success is essential for their survival. for toyota, if they closed lexus (like they did with scion) it really wouldn't be the end of the world for toyota.
lexus has always sought to find unique niches and that continues.
the new gx is basically a cheaper g-wagon.
the new tx is basically a cheaper x7/gls
the new rx is basically a cheaper x5/gle
the nx is basically a cheaper x1/x3/glb
the ls is basically a cheaper/smaller s-class
and so on.
i don't think wood trim is a defining factor in a luxury car any longer.
I would rather see no wood trim, than fake wood trim. The ethos of this vehicle jibes with no wood trim, what I have an issue with is the use of fake wood.
Fake wood doesn’t bug me. Nor does the power telescope. Full time 4WD. And permanent spare tire. Made in Japan. Engine bay covers. Optional AVS. Or electric K-DSS. Those make it for me
Though Bit I disagree, people want wood in their luxury cars still even if not the same way as it used to look.
I can't believe there's no standard power wheel or wood trim. I'm still into this new GX lot but wtf, that's not proper Lexus-like. GX isn't entry level or inexpensive in any way.
The old GX had a fantastic (wood) steering wheel, I prefer it to what's in my LX.
The fake wood or even lack of wood would be totally fine if the interior had more substance to make up for it, but it's so bland and spartan. Looking through the interior color combinations is just depressing. Hope you like black.
The Defender's interior certainly doesn't exude luxury but it has more character and color.
I certainly don’t need wood trim in a truck like this but if you are going to include it, at this price point and class of manufacturer it should be real wood. I have no problem with the GX being more utilitarian but don’t try and make it something it’s not. As for power tilt steering, make it part of an option group, heck my IS350 was over $50k and had a manual tilt so in a base GX I don’t have an issue with it.
again, thank tesla. bland and spartan IS the new luxury.
luxury has and is being redefined.

welcome to the world of fake everything.
i couldn't care less what's "real" or "fake" just as long as it looks and feels good and is decent quality.
even 'real wood' in cars is typically a very very thin veneer glued to some 'fake' backing.
with giant leaps in design, materials, and manufacturing, we're rapidly moving to where a) fake will be indistinguishable from real, and b) new never before seen designs, textures, patterns, and materials are possible, c) cars will be customizable to whatever someone wants.
