This is outstanding. You've got this unique charm to it's design that harkens to those old ToMoCo SUVs yet it's modern and edgy. I don't think Land Rover is in trouble but they may want to look over their shoulder at this new GX
I am a bit concerned how it will age - the sharp angles scream retro to me. Too new for my brain to analyze..you know new cars sometimes take a bit to grow - we humans resist change.
not surprised you love it, but this to me looks like some kid designed it and it's got poser written all over it.
It's the new "design language" that other manufacturers seem to be moving towards - look at the new Nissan Pathfinder and Rogue as well the new EV from Kia - the EV9. I like this new boxy design actually. Its very retro but modern at the same time

Not surprised? They absolutely nailed the design. They got it right. Along with the feature set and components. Full time 4WD, a locking rear diff. E-kdss. Adaptive suspensions. Compared to the awful Sequoia and poorly packaged Tundra…this GX is a mega hit.
Spoiler
‘there is no fake rugged here.
The last time Lexus absolutely go it this right was the 1998 LX470.
Except that it isn't a poser vehicle because it actually is as capable as its appearance would suggest.
i'm sure it will be quite a challenge going 'off road' into the starbucks drive thru or getting the kids from day care.
This look is in, think Bronco, think Defender, lots of people are drawn to these vehicles. Not something *I* am drawn to but I see the appeal.
agreed, it's in, for sure. doesn't mean i have to like it. like you, i am not drawn to it.
i get that for many, the idea of picking something BECAUSE it's NOT beautiful seems appealing. hell, subaru has milked that idea for decades. "look at me, i can drive something so ugly, i must be practical and filled with confidence!"
I think beautoful is relative. Something can be cool and not be beautiful. The new GX is cool, Bronco is cool, Defender is cool. Range Rovers are beautiful, Defender is cool and fun. If I were 30 and still had a desire to go do the kinds of things that the GX would let you do, I could see myself wanting one. I would get the version with the painted trim, etc.
When I got my Defender, which is one of my favorite vehicles I've ever owned, I didn't really consider the GX at all - but if I were in the market now and the new GX were on the market and available it would be on the list.

To me this is a "grown up" 4Runner.
‘Yeah. These overlanding rigs have the right style now. GX does a lot for the Lexus brand as it will now attract new buyers from a new younger demographic. Plus…GX is now a world model and not just for the US
GX has always been the grown up 4Runner BTW
