Palisade had 20", New Escalade/Yukon were 21", Defender had just 9" behind the 3rd row.
With that split rear gate design I'm pretty confident I could force a bag in there, but that's just me... The others you mention, with exception of the Defender, definitely offer more cargo space with the third row up.

My friends and I used to road trip a lot to tournaments (or share rental cars) so we got pretty good at fitting a lot of stuff into small spaces! haha

Im sure I could squeeze one bag back there but right now in my Durango I could put two bags behind the third row with one on top of the other. I know the additional 4.5” seems small but it actually makes a big difference in space. However, if we go the X7 route I could definitely make it work because the rest of the truck is so good.

Every 4.5 inches counts when it comes to space like that

Yeah, I agree every bit of space helps when you're literally trying to squeeze something into an area. If you need to use the third row and carry two bags, then the X7 will not work, for one bag through, it would be fine as you note.

It's funny because I very rarely play hockey anymore (I assume at some point my 2 year old son will), but whenever I look at cargo space, that's always the first thing I visualize and as myself mentally: how many hockey bags fit in this space?!

Yeah. I want to have at least 1 beater forever. My Tesla doesn't see rain as I take the minivan when I see a hint of precipitation. I just tell people my electric car isn't waterproof.

That is funny and exactly how I think when buying a sedan. I still play so I look at the trunk to make sure my bag will fit.

I can't imagine planning the purchase of an SUV based on how much hockey equipment will fit in the cargo area. My son's sport is Lacrosse, but consistently the happiest parents are those who drive either sedans or pickup trucks. Nobody who has to make a 6-8 hour drive home from an out of state tournament is happy about having that gear inside the passenger compartment.

I'm this way with golf clubs. I couldn't even tell you where my golf clubs are...but I'm always measuring vehicles by how many golf bags will fit

haha, good one. pickup makes most sense... having all that stanky gear in a trunk...

Funny you mention that, I do consider that too after owning a 350Z where I had to take the woods out of the bag every time I brought golf clubs in that car.

Well looks like the X7 M50i is going to be our next SUV. My wife took one test drive and that was it. As much as I wanted to wait for the Durango Hellcat to come in to see it in person, she didn’t like the front end changes and said she didn’t want it. When they wouldn’t budge on the $5K-$10K markup I just said no thanks. Then when I mentioned some of the other SUVs mentioned in this thread (besides the GLS we test drove) she said she didn’t want to look at anything else.

So we are likely ordering Monday and there was one option we are unsure of and it’s which trim to go with, the matte black wood or gloss black wood. We have the matte black wood in our M340 and while I like it in that car I feel the gloss fits better with the luxury stuff in the X7 like the glass controls on the shifter and controller ****. Any thoughts on that?

^^^^Congratulations......and good luck with it.

You might be better off without the Hellcat. If you think that markups on a Hellcat are bad, just imagine what trying to get affordable insurance for it could be like. Granted, insurance for a BMW M-product won't be dirt-cheap either, but likely not as much of a hassle as for a Hellcat.

Congratulations on your decision. Would you consider Performance Center delivery in Spartanburg? I haven't done it, but from all reports it's a great experience.
