I found GX's pickup to be adequate enough for me and it was smooth, but 4.6 versus 6.4L consisting of pushrods is a huuuuuuuge difference. That is a humongous V8 engineered for low end torque from the get-go.
It's funny you say that when the 6.4 was designed to rev out.....it will outperform the UR engines up high. Both the Hemis and LS have this weird reputation of not being high rpm capable and it's interesting why everyone thinks that just because they use pushrods.
I wonder how he would feel with his SRT in the same setting. This (non M) X5 I have I feel almost like driving my 4GS F Sports but a bit faster and burns less gas.
The X5 is essentially the same vehicle but it feels way more agile.

Oh, preach. You took the words right out of my mouth. My 2 valve 5.3 revs out just as fast as both DOHC V8s I have, and even adding to that the small block actually is a smoother engine than the DOHC 5.7 Toyota up top near redline. The Toyota 5.7 has a better rumble, though. And it's not as if the 5.7 isn't smooth....just, USA knows what they're doing with their old school V8s. I'd love a GM 6.2 minus the efficiency crap that gives it issues.
