Ford Maverick pickup
Well, not surprising. The Ford Maverick has been a smash hit, just like its sister Bronco Sport, built on the same platform. But that excessive demand, coupled with supply problems, means that orders for 2022s are backed up through the end of the model year.....Ford will not be able to supply all of them. I had wanted to check one out, too, for at least a static review or brief test-drive if possible...I should have taken a few minutes extra when I was looking over the Bronco Sport a couple of weeks ago, as the Ford shop I was at had a couple of parked Mavericks on the lot. Well, like the article says....you snooze, you lose.

The potential good news, though, is that Hyundai offers a competing small crossover truck....the Santa Cruz, but the supply/demand situation for that vehicle is also very tight, so it may not be readily available right now, either. As I said above, I haven't had a chance to review or test drive either one, but, simply based on looks, I think the Maverick is FAR better-looking, both in the front and rear. And the Maverick comes standard with a gas-saving hybrid powertrain....and is some 4K cheaper to start.

Agreed that Ford has got a winner with the Maverick. Once again, as with the Bronco and Bronco-Sport, GM got blind-sided.
I plan to do a Maverick write-up when possible, either static or with a test-drive.
I know I use this term a lot, but that would be apples and oranges. The original Sport-Trac (a close friend of mine still owns one) was a BOF truck-based Ranger derivitive. The Maverick is totally different in its design/structure......a crossover/unibody, with a transverse-engine.
BTW, on that note, an all-new Ranger is on the way...we'll see if Ford does a new Sport-Trac version of it or not. They did not with the Australian-designed Ranger that they have marketed the last few years.
Actually, to a large extent, it was an Explorer. It used the then-Explorer frame and interior, although the rear cargo area, of course, was replaced by a truck-bed and handy built-in flip-down bed-extender....which came in handy when we used it to help my friend move into his new house.

I was generally a fan of the Sport-Trac. It was well-built, versatile, had a reasonably nice interior for a truck of that era, and was generally agreeable except for the (IMO) too-stiff ride. All BOF trucks had an overly-stiff ride back then, though, particularly when eighty-loaded, until the Dodge Ram 1500 switched to coil springs, added sound insulation, and opened up whole new chapter for trucks.
