Unhappy Disappointed with the new Enform app

2020 Lexus Enform remote and Enform service connect Jan 5, 2020

I recently purchased a 2020 Lexus RX350 SUV and am very pleased with the vehicle, BUT I am VERY disappointed with the remote start application! Why?:

1. The remote started is set to only allow the vehicle to run for 10 minutes, no adjust ability! I am in Alberta where temperatures in the winter are frequently lower than -20 and can get down to -40, 10 minutes run time just doesn’t to it. The run time needs to be adjustable by owner, I would suggest up to 30 minutes.

2. For competitive luxury vehicles like Lincoln, Cadillac, even my F350 Ford pick up when you start the vehicle in the cold it automatically turns up the heat, turns on seats and steering wheel, in the summer does same for A/C, NOT the Lexus! In my opinion the remote needs to be able to set temperature, control where the air is directed like defrost so the front window can get cleared, be able to turn on the seats and steering wheel heat and turn on rear window defogger for the entire run time so when you get in it’s warm and the windows are clear.

3. The application keeps track of where the vehicle is parked and your last trips ( turn by turn)! The owner should be able to disable this feature! I do not want anyone to know where my vehicle is parked or where I drove it! To me it’s an infringement on my privacy, no one including Lexus needs to know this!!

4. The application’s software also assesses my driving skills rating cornering, braking and acceleration, the owner should also be able to disable this feature! In my opinion it infringes on my privacy ( is it even legal?). This could work for or against you if there ever was an accident. Lexus does not need to know this!

This is my second Lexus, I was pleased with the first and more so with this new one, a real pleasure to drive! The Lexus engineers did a great job designing and building a truly great vehicle, too bad they didn’t do same for the remote start “ Enform” program

Just my 2 cents worth!

#1 seems to be a odd request. 30 minute seems excessive. (Also not good for the car)

Yes it may be but 10 just doesn't do it. When it's cold here I want to get into warmed up vehicle with the windows clear like my Ford Superduty is

Our Matrix does 15min. But it is aftermarket. maybe Lexus needs to do it for 15 at least

What is the coldest you get? We get -25C on occasion in my territory

My IS350 had after market remote that went to 20 minutes which was fine. So far this winter hasn't been that cold, this weekend to -20 but it's not uncommon for -30 ( that's not wind chill that's raw temperature).

Remind me not to buy a used car which you used to own... Idling the car for that long is going to put a lot of wear on the engine. Why? The engine isn't going to warm up very quickly while you're parked. It heats more quickly while you are using it - accelerating, namely. So, you're making the car run at its coldest possible engine temperature for the longest possible time... Sounds like a recipe for accelerated wear.

I would suggest parking in a heated garage.

The application’s software also assesses my driving skills rating cornering, braking and acceleration, the owner should also be able to disable this feature! It is probably legal. And by that I mean, you agreed to it when you signed a contract. Every manufacturer does this. WRT accidents, just get a dash cam, and follow the law. If it's your fault, the absence of a data recorder doesn't make it any less your fault.

You can decline some of the terms. Not sure on the parked location, but the rest of it... I declined. See the following images:

Not sure where the "No Thanks" is, but hey, I've already declined. So, maybe that's why it's not there.

This is a safety issue. 30 minutes is just too long for the car to be running in a closed environment.

If you have your HVAC set to AUTO, and your seats set to AUTO, it will do this.

Lexus just knows all of this. Part of driving a connected car.
