the straight left edge with the 'arrow' right edge is just so weird and the left straight edge has the rising dash wedge behind it to try to disguise how high the belt line / hood is. it's one hot mess.
I think every owner uses it regularly. Not necessarily to stick long items out, but to quickly drop things in the back without opening the whole slow moving liftgate. The same ease as a sedan's trunk.
Yeah, that's a disappointment. We use ours quite a bit, as I cannot open the full hatch in our garage unless the garage door is open (or I pull in far enough to have room behind me to do so). So we often use that glass window to load/unload small items in the garage. It's also a convenient way to grab something out of there when things have shifted and may fall out once the full hatch is opened.
With that said, it wouldn't stop me from buying another one. Our RX rear window didn't open, and we survived that.
LMAO...! Or a guitar could be photo-shopped in there also! That would be perfect if it had the guitar-string look like the LS500 has near the passenger dash area!
Bottom line for me is that I almost bought a 2018 Highlander but sadly wouldn't buy this new one if I was in the market again. I was on the fence between Highlander and CX-9 when shopping last. That's how much I liked it but I just can get past the face on this new one. Not hideous but still awkward and far from great looking. I have to have something I love the styling of.
right there with you, I test drove the current highlander and found the 3rd row to be very small, just little more room than the RX350h but no where what the pilot gives or the Atlas. I was hoping the new refresh they add some inches to the wheelbase and I wouldn't mind picking it up. But I guess that's not happening.

They did add 2.6 inches to the wheelbase, but it remains to be seen how much of an improvement there will be in 3rd seat legroom.
they should of not gone back to the strange snout from 2 generations ago! Hope this means the new RX is just around the corner as well....
You mean 2 refreshes ago? Because this is the current generation Highlander, just with an older style front end. 2 Generations ago would be the original Highlander.
you are correct, might be little more roomier from inside, I was looking at a review not sure which one but the guy was saying that the 3rd row is still crapped and still for kids, unlike the Telluride or Atlas/pilot.

not really.... real life MPG wont be anything similar, but also consider costs - they can offer 300h at much lower costs than 450h.
I fully support this move by Toyota. I think that the Highlander Hybrid has gotten too expensive and that many buyers would rather pay less for less power but more MPG. Clearly Toyota does too.
I would hope that this would pave the way for options for the RX. I’m sure there are some who would be interested an efficient 300h and others would prefer the potent for 450h. Though I do t think that you could apply that kind of choice anywhere else in the Lexus lineup. An ES450h would be silly, no one is interested in the GS anymore, and the RC is too small for the batteries.
Not in the market for midsize crossovers, but I do want the Highlander to continue to do well in the segment (more money to invest in cars I am interested in). With that said, was surprised to see the new Highlander not look like a XL RAV4 that kinda pretends to be a real SUV in looks. Hopefully that means a new 4Runner is on way because the new one should continue to be the rugged midsize offering compared to the Highlander. Toyota also "right-sized" the new Highlander and did not make it huge like the new Atlas and Telluride/Palisade. I see a lot of people complain about lack of third-row space on the internet, but we'll see if Toyota is trying to protect its other offerings that have "roomy" third rows. New Sienna is on its way and maybe even a new Sequoia (after the new Tundra). I am a little biased as I do not want to see cars get bigger each generation. Takes up too much space.
