I've only driven the Macan once and was blown away with it. It feels and handles like a sports sedan even though it's a cross over. Plenty of power and great fun to drive. Materials are beautiful and it's put together very well.

The RX350 is what you'd expect it to be. Comfortable, floaty, relatively numb steering feel.

To me the RX350's ride is more like an ES350 but with SUV size and capability. The Macan is going to be much smaller overall than an RX - maybe even consider a CPO Porsche Cayenne which will have more space similar to an RX.

If you're considering the Macan, you might also want to consider the Lexus NX.

My assistant has the Cayenne which I think is pretty nice. I like the styling of the Macan as well. The Macan and RX are completely different cars so you should test drive them both and get a feel for what you would rather have.

If your looking for reliability, nothing beats the RX if that's important to you.

Macan has always been close to the top of my list for looks and performance. But It’s an expensive choice, depreciation if bought new, repair and maintenance if bought preowned.

Since you’re not looking for third row, and you are considering Porsche, why not a Panamera? Way more fun than a Macan and can be had gently used for great prices these days.

Porsches are actually pretty reliable these days....perhaps more so than any other German make. Their reputation as money-pits comes from if and when something major does break after the warranty expires...to replace a non-covered major Porsche component can involve re-mortgaging your house LOL.

He wants something with more space. The cargo capacity in the Panamera is deplorable, significantly worse than the GS that he's looking to replace because it doesn't carry enough.. We tried to rent one once, and were only able to fit one large suitcase in the back. But the hatch wouldn't come anywhere near closing. We wound up with a Cayenne instead, and fit all three large suitcases along with a smaller one and some backpacks in the back.

I would only get Macan S with the 6cyl. The base turbo 4 is garbage.

Better option is X5 - sportier than RX, smooth Inline 6 turbo, and much more space than a Macan.

I like the refreshed 2020 RX F Sport a lot having just stopped by the dealer earlier this week to look at one.

I'm also a huge fan of the GS in fact in 2014 when I bought my Macan S I had it narrowed down to the GS AWD FSport or the Macan S. It was a tougher decision than it sounds LOL but if you choose a Macan S or GTS as you stated from a driving aspect I believe you will be quite satisfied. My Macan has been reliable especially for a launch vehicle. I will also tell you to do some research on preventative maintenance costs. Dealer for Dealer service the Macan has cost much more each time. To me its more than worth it, but YMMV. Enjoy your search!
