Lexus GX 460 Gets Minor Facelift, Driver Assist Tech
By Geoffrey Piehl

Will a minor refresh keep the GX 460 from going extinct into the next decade?

This has to be the laziest update they could have done for the GX. They could have updated the infotainment system.

Update of GX sales:

1GX
2002 - 2,190
2003 - 31,376
2004 - 35,420
2005 - 34,339
2006 - 25,454
2007 - 23,035
2008 - 15,759
2009 - 6,235
2GX
2010 - 16,450
2011 - 11,609
2012 - 11,039
2013 - 12,136
2014 - 22,685
2015 - 25,212
2016 - 25,148
2017 - 27,190
2018 - 26,724
2019 - 10,971 YTD - January thru June, Projected 26,100
2020 - Projected 27,000
2021 - Projected 25,000
2022 - Projected 22,500
3GX
2023 - Projected 26,000
Total 362,972 + 100,500 = 463,472

Lexus should also bring in a 2 row GX as well which would be at a lower price point and have more cargo room than the 3 row GX. Lexus also needs to have the barn door open the correct way for left hand drive countries. This would also increase sales as well. Bring in an F Sport GX as well...

I'm not sure a 2 row is needed since the 3rd row stows flat and out of the way unlike the LX. It will improve FE and performance a bit with less weight to haul around though. I love my GX and with that said, I am extremely disappointed with this update. It's nothing more than a money grab. Not a single extra HP, not a single extra gear in the tranny and heck not even a new center console basically nothing that's important to the every day drivers of this thing.

GX is great, tried and true. It gets away with fewer updates, partly because it is in a niche. I would like to see a 3rd generation though with a more conventional rear tailgate than the 'barn door'

Ive gotten GX for loaners a few times. Nice trucks, very roomy, very capable of doing just about anything you want, they are definitely the last of dying breed and drive just like one lolll. But I wish they would get rid of that touch screen from the early 2000s. I was actually on the fence about getting one before I got my RX f sport. But after using them as loaners for a few days I turned away. Also lets not forget how bad the gas mileage is. Before people start chiming in about big SUVs and they have V8s. Ive owned 4 Tahoes, 1 Silverado, 2 Hummer H2's and still own a 99 square body 5.7 Yukon in my garage. This thing got about as bad fuel mileage as my H2's did. I feel its just passed its days and its time to release the next Generation.

i think people buy them knowing they have stout reliability, straightforward (if VERY dated) controls and infotainment, won't leave you stranded in just about any weather or terrain, and have pretty good utility. they also ride quite comfortably and i'm sure are very safe too. buyers obviously don't think about fuel economy and the associated large costs over time.

I'm ok with the barn door, it just opens the wrong way. I wish Lexus would make it so it opens the correct way for left hand drive countries...that is one other thing Lexus could improve upon the current GX as well...

Too bad they just didn’t go with a LX two fold door. Even a 4Runner door could of been done if they really wanted to.
