My apologies if this has been discussed, I saw a new, to me at least, grill design while in the dealership for service. It was love at first sight. Curious of others opinions on the standard grill, the “F” style or whatever this is called.
ridiculous, and the new LS is the most ridiculous it's been... there just needs to be something separating the grille horizontally so there's not so much uninterrupted grille
i think the new ES (apart from the grille) is currently the best looking lexus though, apart from the LC that is (which still needs wheels that are like an inch smaller)
I think the design works best on cars for which it was originally intended. For example, the IS, RC, LC, LS (2018+), and ES (2019+) all wear it better than others. When the RX debuted, it also had the grill, but I can't help but feel it was an afterthought. It just isn't well-integrated.
There are also two distinct variants of the "spindle" we've seen over time. The first one originates from the LF-Gh concept:
This version of the grill design essentially inspired the 4GS's look (obviously) before its refresh as well as the look of the 3IS before its refresh.
Then there's the LF-LC concept.
This design is more reminiscent of the grill design found on basically any Lexus vehicles designed after the 2014 IS, like the RC, the RX, and so on.
For what it's worth, the LF-LC is more attractive to me, and I think the LF-Gh concept above would look better with a wider grill design like we see on the LC concept.
To sum up, I think Lexus has gotten better at implementing this design motif over time, but it's still neither the best it could be nor the most attractive design theme on sale today.
From a cleaning/detailing standpoint, I dislike the little squares of the “F”. The horizontal blades of the stock RX, just didn’t seem “right”. This vertical design shown above seemed to follow the flow of the front end.
The damn state-required license plate and bracket will provide a horizontal break in the verticality.

I am quite happy with Lexus' so called spindle grille.
It is both attractive, yet different.
The fact is that Lexus' spindle grille is selling very well across America.
The RX is now the biggest selling luxury motor vehicle in the US.
I don't like RX's too heavily damped ride, and the lack of bump absorption and noise from the low profile tires, but I do believe the RX is the US's biggest selling luxury motor vehicle thanks to a combination of: styling, space, price and reliability.
Just about the entire Lexus range is selling well.
4.5GS is not selling well, but that's probably more due to its age.
5LS not selling well, but probably more due to a combination of: Infiniti-like rear quarter styling, space, and sports firmness/NVH.
LX and GX are really really old.
It's like somebody at Lexus wanted to make a grille more ugly than the waterfall grille that Lincoln is finally abandoning.
For the most part I've enjoyed the Lexus spindle grille. I understand that it's been pretty controversial on here, but I thought it looked pretty good, especially on the sportier models like the IS or GS.
