I think they’re serious about the UX. Let’s see what the second generation NX brings. If it’s larger and more refined, then the UX has room to breath. The 4GS Akio had to pull the boss card on, and unfortunately he couldn’t do it with a 5th gen. Partly due to sedan/suv trends, but also the 7ES effectively killed any possibility of the GS surviving. AWD is coming to the ES, and the F-Sport model make the GS a harder sell. The similar size but $10k difference does not make sense to normal consumers. Enthusiasts like us know the differences. Keep in mind the UX is also on a more economical platform, the GS despite the Mark X is a bit more niche. I’d have loved to see a 5GS GS 500 with 10-speed and 3.5 TTV6. RIP the dream.

Does the UX really compete with NX? You can’t get AWD in the gasoline UX so that eliminates a huge comparison compared to the 2.0T AWD model NX. I also think one cannot get a fully loaded gas version. So the UX and NX are able to coexist quite well. The UX is the better buy over a NX.

In the sense that they’re both 5-door hatches sure.

FWD, AWD, RWD be damned if we’re simply talking about a body style. They could compete, but either way it’s a win for ToMoCo if the consumer gets either. Lexus needs all classes and sizes of SUVs.

UX is here, 2NX is around the corner, 5RX also nearing, should debut some new stuff, also hope they make the L better in mind this time around rather than an after thought. 3GX is supposedly in the works. No idea what’s in store for the LX, thought the Land Cruiser getting the 3.5 TTV6 means the LX will likely live on.

Agreed.....unless one needs the larger interior volume of the NX. But, having test-driven both, I am convinced the UX drives better and more comfortably.

Saw a cadillac xt4 today. Love it. Wondered how its dimensions compared to ux.

177x72x61 ux (lxwxh)
181x77x64 xt4
182x74x65 nx

Seems the xt4 is closer to nx size. thing that stuck out for me is the ‘baby’ cadillac’s width. Really gives it presence. The ux is the same width as a camry. Maybe that’s why it looks narrow to me, although it’s not as tall as xt4 and nx.

Size-wise, the NX and XT4 are considered compact (C-class) upmarket SUVs. The UX is a subcompact (B-class) upmarket SUV. The RX, of course, is mid-sized...D class.
