Default 2020 Genesis G80

it's coming... and being tested on public roads now...

2020 Genesis G80 Ditches Conservative Looks For More Emotion

BY MICHAEL KARKAFIRIS | POSTED ONAUGUST 20, 2018Genesis has started testing the next G80 on public roads, with a heavily disguised prototype being spotted by our skilled spies.

With the current G80 being essentially a rebadged Hyundai Genesis, the Korean premium brand had to completely change the mid-sized executive sedan, making it not only more modern but more appealing to the eye.

Despite the covers, the new generation of the Genesis G80 does look like its gunning for a sportier design, directly inspired by the smaller G70. The end result is expected to be a sleek, wide-hipped four-door sedan that will try to keep you away from a German dealership.

The overhaul will continue inside, with Genesis expected to go with an impressive range of safety and comfort features, along with high-quality of materials and fit-and-finish. As the company’s new luxury executive sedan, the 2020 G80 will offer everything from a configurable digital instrument cluster and a last-gen connected infotainment system to the latest semi-autonomous systems.

The current Genesis G80 is powered by a V6 in both naturally aspirated and twin-turbo guises, as well as a 5.0-liter V8. It’s no secret that Genesis has been working on a new generation of electrified powertrains, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if the V8 bites the dust and gets replaced by a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Genesis has been developing a mid-sized SUV as well, set to go against models like the BMW X5 and Mercedes GLE, among others. The Korean brand also plans to launch its first all-electric vehicle in 2021, which is said to have a driving range of at least 310 miles (500km).

As for the new Genesis G80, expect the new Korean executive sedan to launch in different regions as of late 2019.

Yay! Can't wait to see what they come up with. I hope they put that car on a serious diet as the weight is the one thing I've struggled to get past on the current one.

I really hope this is a typo:

As the company’s new luxury executive sedan, the 2020 G80 will offer everything from a configurable digital instrument cluster and a last-gen connected infotainment system to the latest semi-autonomous systems.
As written, it almost sounds like they're going to license Entune/Enform I'm assuming that's supposed to say latest-gen.

But agree with the above, Genesis has been executing very well, but lacking a bit in the excitement arena. If they can combine the great quality and value we've seen from the Gx0 lineup thus far with some passion that actually gets people excited about the brand, I think they will finally start to get noticed.

Please don't put a 4 cyl in it, give it a over priced unwanted hybrid/electric, or get rid of most of the buttons for a lame annoying mostly touchscreen layout.

I like the dual mode.. for me as a driver, the jog dial and buttons are great because I can feel everything by touch and not have to look at it, plus I don't have to lean forward to reach the screen.

For a passenger the touch screen is great because they don't have to touch my buttons or settings.

I'll reserve final thoughts and comments when it sheds it's camo. But thus far from the photos, the greenhouse, pillars, and rear body shape looks extremely frumpy and soft. It appears this metrosexual hatchback look is spreading like wildfire across the board. =(

You don't have room to talk, you have a tt 6 cylinder and tons of physical buttons and switches in your new G90, I would gladly trade interiors.

I can't tell but I hope they are not doing a hatchabck/sportback look, I like a traditional 4 door sedan look with a regular trunk like the current G80 has.

So sounds like it will just be a bigger looking G70 now? Bmw and Audi one sausage different lengths mentality. Hope it keeps the optional V8

On the Carscoops page, the greenhouse IMHO doesn't look much different than the current model.

I like the current G80 side profile much better. New one's rear end looks too droopy.
