Fair point, but your original post compared the existing E43 to this E53 and that this was a huge styling upgrade that fixed what you considered to be a previously very soft looking vehicle, when in reality Im pretty sure the front end, side profile, rims are all the same. The only change is really to the exhaust tips, and you get three more fins in the diffuser.
Here is a picture of the E43, with the night package, but you get the gist. No doubt a great looking vehicle. I myself dislike the round pipes in favor for something more square, but I can see why they would do this, and this is a better treatment than to the existing 43 series with the fake quad set up
The E43 is great looking, but soft and too close to the original E300 design, which I would've never considered before. The E53 amps it up enough to a point I'd now consider it purchasable, for my tastes.
Hey guys, I haven't been on this forum in years so I started a new account. For those of you that are unaware, the "43" models will go away in a few years to make room for the 53 across the MB line up. 53 models will start with the CLS and E, slowing making it way across the MB lineup. No C53 for the current body style, but expect it next generation.
I spend the past few years working for MB, so I have pretty good knowledge about their lineup that is coming out.
well i'm happy to see the actual oval "quad tips" come back after this rectangular trapezoidal malarkey has been going on for a few years now. very sharp looking vehicle they got here, but it's still a "fake AMG" to me though

It's more realistic than F-sport badges Lexus. AMG started by modifying base platforms and motors in the 60s, so it is more of a return to their roots than anything else. The hand built engines of the 45, 63, and 65 models are nice to talk about, but being hand built does not make them a better engine. The 43 models still have forged pistons and the same nano slide tech that the handbuilt engines get. I'm sure MB will do the same with the 53 models. My C43 sure rides like an AMG, suspension is very stiff for factory.
Some will say it hurts the AMG name, I won't argue that.

well f sport is for another discussion, but AMG originally started by offering engine and visual upgrades to customers who came to them. since the merger with mercedes that's pretty much what they continue to do so idk when they "departed" from their roots in your analogy. if any "departing" happened i'd say it's been over the past few years when AMG is starting to become a big marketing tool. i literally saw a monopoly AMG edition when i was last at the dealer lol... and by no means am i saying the C450/C43 is a bad car, but it uses essentially the exact same engine as the standard C400.
to me at least, having something be "an AMG" means a comfy sedan with a giggle inducing comically overpowered engine with brakes and suspension to match. it should also be quite rare. as hans aufrecht put it: "you can't really improve a mercedes, but you can make it different." the e550 and e63 both use a twin turbo v8 of nearly similar size, and as a result the 63 just feels like a more powerful 550. the e55 feels WAY crazier than the e500 and makes such a ridiculously beastly noise. it also has a very smooth ride and is actually a bit wallowy in corners, which i think just adds to the amusement factor. if you want a well balanced nimble sports car, get an M3. if you want a subdued comfortable cruiser that can subsequently turn into a hot rod muscle car and out run a ferrari, get an AMG. i'll let some visuals explain:
face when you drive an M3
face when you drive a C63 (6.2 model)
it's that laugh factor which makes me love the AMGs, and i just feel the E53 somehow won't provide that. i hope it does, but i just think it won't. doesn't mean it won't be a great car though.

So far I am enjoying the BMW M550i XDrive. It's like a smaller 7 series in comfort mode...and an M5 light in sport plus. I considered the AMG E43...but the dual screen dash and stalk gear selector weren't for me, but I did like the exterior. LS was too long...and no Carplay etc. My dealer had two M550i's when I purchased, and the other also sold the same day.

5 series is another great car. bmw has the firm well handling sedan thing down, which is why i liked that mercedes had the e class which is softer and more comfort oriented. i haven't driven the w213 e63 but the w212 has a noticeably firmer ride, and especially way firmer seats than the w211 model. as something to drive everyday, i prefer the softer ride and seats of the older cars. they didn't handle as well, but i think that's ok since if you wanted a stiffer better handling sport sedan, you'd get the m5. now i feel they're turning the amg e class into more of a sports car, whereas it used to be more of a muscle car, if that makes any sense...
wow, car sounds incredible and seems very fast.
HATE HATE all the cheesy chrome or silver painted plastic on the steering wheel though.
about the sound, i did think it was cheesy when he opened the windows and the sound didn't really change, because clearly a lot of the sound is just pumped INTO the cabin, not from outside.

Lol, you should go to a Mercedes dealership and sit in their cars. That “cheesy chrome” is machined aluminum, like the aluminum through out the rest of the cabin. Definitely not plastic either.
Also, the only Mercedes that use sound generators are non-AMG badged cars. Sound generators only come on base engine Mercedes with the sports trim. How do I know? I sold them for years.
the sound generator in my E300, 4 cyl 2.0L, is hilarious. Though I dont know where its pumped out of bc Ive had passengers press their ears against the speakers and they cant tell

The sound goes primarily through th built in sub and rear door mid bass speakers. They do this so you can’t feel the door vibrate
