I had gotten new tires and had the local lexus dealer install them.
first fronts with an alignment all around.
then 2 weeks later had rears installed.
next morning the tire is rubbing my right rear fender lip. It Has never done that before.
I took the car back immediately and it was Saturday. There was nobody there to look at it until Monday.
I got the call from the dealer saying there was nothing a matter and I could pick it up.
long story short they told me to take it to my local performance shop and have them look at it. And this is what we found.
Right rear
Left rear
so now I have to go back to the dealer tomorrow morning. And drop the car off so they can look at what we found. We figure the toll was so far out it pushed the tire past the fender when they adjusted the camber to compensate.
any thoughts of how I should handle it tomorrow?
by the way it is a 2001 Lexus gs430 lowered with 19 inch staggered wheels. Bought from dealer with 11,000 miles they are the only ones that ever have done an alignment on it.
Wonder why OP had an alignment after replacing only front tires? I never go to a dealer shop for all matters with tires. When wife purchased a new MB car the MB shop wanted little over 3K CAD with set of MB winter rims and Pirelli winter tires. I got a set of take-off OEM MB AMG rims from England have them shipped via UPS express for ~900 CAD. Go to a neighborhood tire shop have them mount set of Pirelli and install for ~1200 CAD. Saved almost thousand dollars Canadian. Ended up with better looking nice AMG rims.
I take my car to the dealer only for alignments. Tire Rack sent them directly to the dealer for me. And they give me a nice new car to drive while they have mine. Alignment cost are the same everywhere.
I had emailed the service manager photos yesterday. When I dropped my car off they had the loaner ready for me and said they would take care of everything.

If you ever take a BMW in for an alignment, and leave with damage to your rear right, that's from the tech adjusting the rear toe. Usually they will deny that they did it, even when you've called BMWNA and slammed them on social media. Then when their BBB rating goes to D, they will call and say what can we do to get our A+ back? One wouldn't think so, but not all dealerships are the same, and ones that damage customer vehicles need to be avoided.

I'm willing to do the Costco thing for my wife's SUV and Lexus, but not BMW. With BMW, I'd only do an indie--your factory 189's may as well be off of an Alpina B7, the way they treat them. After getting the Pilot Super Sports mounted and balanced with new TPMS that I provided, I see my car in the garage being bucket washed by hand. That's when you know a shop takes pride in what they do, and for the same price as a tire shop (they charged $110 to mount and balance 4). I once had Tire Rack 40's sent to a Goodyear, and they scuffed up 4/4 rims, I mean as if they scrubbed curbs. I said dude what happened? The tech said do you have any idea how stiff your sidewalls are? (It wasn't the right answer, believe me)

That sounds like a very specific story. Especially given the use of the word "you".

breaking it down like drums and bass--there are some nuts that need to be loosened in order to perform an alignment. If they haven't been loosened in a while, they could be frozen. Techs may apply the use of a cheater bar, and when the nut lets loose, damage. The right thing to do? Own up to it.

Ah, thanks for explaining - I am not all that well-versed in suspension things.
I had an alignment done recently and was a bit worried, but yeah only at 17k or so miles. Shouldn't be an issue that early haha.
My service advisor just called me. They installed that nut and cam washer on an angle like that to get it into toe. They're telling me that's the only way they can get it into alignment.
929rider, i've looked at your photos and have no idea what they're supposed to be telling me.
in the first photo the bolts with the cam washer is supposed to be sitting flush like the second photo.
the third and fourth photos are different angles of it the rounded lip that the cam washer is sitting on should have been placed flush.
they just told me they did it this way so the toe was within spec.
