1980s/1990s Ad Thread
So, if some of you don’t know, I was able to live through most of the past decades and I was able to witness the automotive landscape past and now present. I believe we are in a reincarnation of the 1980's of the way cars are marketed with Turbos and more unique branding. Some people forget or are too young to remember Turbo Toyota's such as the MR2 and Toyota Truck
We recently did an organization of one of our rooms and my husbands old magazines where in there and we gave them a look through.
Below I have upload a few pics of the some of the ads for everyone to peruse through and enjoy.
I think there is a profound difference between and magazine ad in print and one that is just on the Internet. These are best viewed on a large screen computer.
I hope everyone appreciate the ads and I hope everyone will enjoy.

Ah yes, this brings me back when I was growing up. Got nostalgic and pulled out some yellowed C&D, R&T, MT magazines
Jill, P.S. I fully recall all those ads and especially love the '92 ES one. What a looker even for today's standards. My favorite ES of all time. But I digress...
The MR2... my first love... !
And some others below remind me of the best era of affordable sports cars (ok, maybe not so much the Capri!)

You're not asking me, but I'll give my 2c anyways.
The '80's were some of the worst years for car enthusiasts. We suffered through terrible "performance" based vehicles. My first new car purchase was a 1986 Camaro IROC-Z. It boasted 190HP V8! 0 to 60 was in the mid 7 second range. That said, who knows where I would be if I had access to the HP that's available today. Young and stupid is more than just phrase. So, I see no resemblance to the 1980's in today's vehicles.

so as some as these inventions would suggest, it wasn't a roll of film... they were past that already lol

Thanks for the thread, Jill.
I was already well into adulthood (early middle age) when that period rolled around....and had been driving and reviewing cars for some two decades. IMO, the ads for the then-new Subaru XT sport-coupe were probably the corniest ones produced back then. Subaru, back then, established a marketing problem that dogged the company for years. In fact, when first saw the father/son add, I was able to figure out the punch line even before the end of the ad itself.
