In regards to design, there's only so many ways you can make a Sedan, SUV, Pick-up, Coupe etc.. no one is reinventing the wheel. And in regards to styling, these automakers hire engineers and designers from the competition, so of course there will be some overlap. No biggie. The problem or hurdle rather is the badge and its perception to the automotive society.

When I say major players, I'm not talking about size of the company. I'm talking Lexus, BMW, Audi, Mercedes.

Kia outright copies styling cues so I disagree. Maybe not so much now as 10 years ago. Can you tell me of a Lexus styling cue on its body shape that it copied from its major competitors other than the LED light on the ISF that can be argued it copied from Audi?

Well current Lexus styling with the Spindle is pretty unique. So let's go older. 2nd Generation GS and the 2nd gen E-Class (W210), come to mind. Also included the Jaguar S-Type for giggles.

Uhh, just a minor point. The Benz E class in the pics is actually a W211, not a W210. The W210 from the 2GS era is this one. Quite frumpy by todays standards and of course the 2GS looked a lot more exciting from its side and rear 3/4 profiles. But I agree, some copycat for sure. I still like the Benz for its solidness though.

But for the Stinger, they definitely went Audi for design cues. The advantage here is that the Stinger uses a RWD platform vs the Audi's FWD/longitudinal setup. What you think of all this is up to you, the consumer. It's a $50K Kia for American consumers and a similar price in Euro pricing. Maybe Kia is going for local pricing with a "magic" number.

I was just using it as an example that Hyundai/Kia is a big global corporation. This was specific to just the first 2 months of last year, so Suzuki may or may not have finished in the top 10. At the very least top 15. Good observation though.

Thank you for the correction. I just wanted to highlight the GS and E-Class shared a very distinct design feature, but you're right. Jaguar also had a similar approach to the S-Type with the headlights.

Oh and I just thought of this one. Kia Amanti

^^^ They should have gotten Steven Tyler to hustle the Amati before he started resembling Neolithic Man, lol. Actually the Euro effect could be seen in 80s/90s GTIs too. Four-eye cars.

If my memory is correct, the Amanti wasn't even out yet when Aerosmith was at their peak in the 80s and early 90s.

The Stinger's best angles. It's got to be one of the nicest Kias that's for sure. Jalopnik, likes it.

I like it in red - would be a tough call between red and that awesome dark gray if I had my choice. I did find it odd that Jalopnik complained about ride quality - don't believe any other major critics have that I have noticed.

I saw the 2.0T at the Philadelphia Auto Show--I was less than impressed with this version. Unfortunately, the GT was on a turntable. I'm sure the GT interior is nicer.
