I completely disagree. Many posts on CarChat show that the posters have no idea what HP and torque actually are or what they do.
Well, OK, then, for those who do NOT know, here's the rub.........(and we've had threads on this before):
One HP is the amount of actual work (and energy) it takes to raise a 550-lb. weight one foot in one second....that is the actual power produced in the cylinders when the air/fuel mixture is ignited and drives the piston down. Torque is the twisting motion, produced from that power, at the engine's output-shaft, when that power is converted to rotation via the connecting rods, crankshaft, and flywheel. It is torque, not HP, that actually propels the car forward when you hit the gas. HP mainly determines how fast the vehicle will ultimately reach at top speed, overcoming air-resistance.
Now, the first thing we have to address here is the acceleration. Officially, the Lexus IS 200t with the 240 HP engine and 258 lb ft of torque accelerates to 60 in 7 seconds. Ok, that is a nice round number, almost in the realm of hot hatches like the Golf GTI or something. However, the equally powerful BMW 328i (literally equally, it has same amount of torques for goodness sake) can do the same a second faster. A second faster! That is a lot. And if we know that BMW is often rather conservative in their acceleration estimates, we find it hard to believe that the IS 200t is so much slower than the car it wants to beat in the market race. Obviously, Lexus can talk the talk that they aren’t after the buyers of the 3 series BMWs or that they have different philosophy and all of that, but c’mon. One second!
Here you go. If force = acceleration, then the physics at Toyota is obviously broken. Like I said, these numbers are meaningless in the context of Toyota's car. Both.
I think the same can be said for the engineers at Toyota...lol.

In my opinion it's curb weight and transmissions that Toyota needs to work on. Of course a lighter weight car with a better transmission will accelerate faster than a heavier one with a less favorable transmission, even with the same output.

After watching a few vids that showcase the interior it really is something special. Has its own unique style not easy to do, incredible interior actually.
You have just insulted the thousands of professionals without whom there would be no Toyota and Lexus cars for you to complain about.
And as an engineer myself, I resent that, and take it personally.
with his 'lol' clearly he meant it as a joke and not literally. no one can seriously believe toyota engineers don't know about hp and torque. and it wasn't about you at all (he didn't make a joke about all engineers) so no need to resent it or take it personally.
