and yes most people do not have generators, but regardless the key coded or thumb print coded locks use AA or C batteries and are not powered by the house..
Neither is your HomeLink or Chamberlin remote...but if you don't have a lifter with a battery back up--or a full solar array --then it doesn't matter how the keypad is powered.

what does one have to do with the other?
a door lock keypad unlocks your front door and is battery operated, it has nothing to do with home link or your garage door..
you are talking about garage doors and openers, I am talking about front doors and keyless locks.
*** my apologies, I misread Byprodrive's original statement, I took it to mean he embraced keyless door lock technologies for the home, since that is what everyone else was talking about.
guess he was saying he doesn't embrace technology..
What about a Zipper Wallet? My girl friend gave me of of these Coach leather wallets recently that have a pocket inside that snaps, I did use it to put some keys in it.. I have a smaller version of one like this.. I think its pretty cool.. (I wasn't aware anything like this existed until she gave me one) I usually had the traditional Rolfs wallet or Tommy Hilfiger one.. lol

I use a minimalist wallet/money clip, keys don't fit as mentioned in my original post.
Use an old credit card and cut out two spaces for the keys and line the back side with a sticky tape. That should hold the keys in the slots and make it easy to pop them out. I'm sure the only draw back would be having to replace the tape once in a while.

now that's an idea..
I can probably machine something like that up myself..
thank you.
***edit, well damn using your idea I further refined my searching and look what I found, this should fit in my credit card wallet/money clip without issue.
mjeds, i think you said you need to use the 2 keys you have daily, so wouldn't that credit card hide-a-key thing be a pain?
my car key fob is connected to a quickly detachable bar/ring with a few keys, so i tend to have just the key fob in my pocket and the rest in my car or bag. occasionally i need to carry all so i just re-attach the fob to the rest. simple enough.

I carry them with me, I don't use them daily.
my mom is 80 with replacement hips and knees and is on oxygen. most of the time she is ok and she answers the door, but there have been occasions where she has fallen or can't get off her chair to get to the door and I need the keys to get in.
its more of a I need them with me just in case scenario. I don't like leaving keys in the car, have had a bad experience with that in the past.

I feel your pain, and Life Alert has been our friend several times. I have my mother's garage door opener in my car. She leaves the house door to the garage unlocked, so all I need is the garage door opener to get in... no keys. Don't know whether or not that will work for you but just a suggestion.

Even if you wanted to lock the door from the garage to the house, you could hide a key in the garage. It doesn't have to be in the obvious "under the mat" spot where anyone can find it. I have one in my garage and have used it on a few occasions where I locked myself out.

detached Garage so that doesn't work for us, the other issue is her house is backed up to a main blvd. so she doesn't want any keys hidden anywhere outside.
I ordered that thing I posted above, waiting for delivery.
I actually talked my mom into allowing me to master key her house to mine.
So we will have different locks with different keys for the two houses, and different locks with different keys for the main and security doors, but I will have 1 master key that will operate all the locks.
have a locksmith coming out next week to re-key everything. Then I no longer have to carry 2 keys, just one that I can use for my house if the electronic lock fails and her house.
the key sleeve about should be adequate for that. Though I wish I could just convince her to use a keypad lock, she is too stubborn for that.

Great decision! It is truly difficult trying to care of our households and those of our aging parents as well.
