I need a new key for my 93 GS300 and I called the dealer. Keyless entry is a little out of my price range for now, but I still need a regular key. I am using the valet key for now.

Anyway, they said it is like $50 for the key then $40 to re-program the new key. For keyless entry I could see that, but for some reason I just don't beleve that this year had chipped keys. Is this guy full of it? I asked him, he said he was 100% sure it had to be programmed.

I don't know what to tell you about the chip but i can tell you that I have a NON-OEM key that came when i purchased the vehicle and it works fine. The only thing it doesn't have is the keyless entry on it but other then that, everything is cool. I purchased 2 more non oem keys on ebay for $10. I just have to find somewhere to cut them. I'll keep you posted

There is NO chip in the key! The only thing programmable is the keyless. I'm 100% sure the keyless has to be programmed, that all. He's sneaky!!!!

Yeah, I thought so. I don't even know if OBDI is capable of such things. Which is why I opt to get a Pre-96 GS. OBDI = easy mods.
