But I think fleets are a huge component of that. I think I've only seen one or two privately-owned Continentals since they launched. Nearly all of them are operated by car services. The flipside is true of the LS. I've only ever seen one or two with livery plates.
I have never seen a new Continental livery model. But I rarely see the new Continental anyway. Whatever, it still has sold better.
Lincoln Continental outsold the LS500 574 to 346. Absolutely unreal.
Not unreal at all, when you look at the vast improvement the Continental is over the former MKS, and the disappointment that the new LS500 is compared to its predecessor LS460. Obviously neither sedan is selling like the Camry, but, hopefully, Lexus will learn lesson from this.
That will simply compound the mistake. What's needed is a plusher, cushier LS.....like they did for decades, not a sport sedan.
Exactly. I hope they don’t cancel it. That’s what makes the Lexus brand. Just like you can’t imagine Mercedes without the s-class, which except for reliability, is a better and much more luxurious car than the LS500.
The golden age of the sedan in the plus $35K price points and higher are over
Fight now, it's declining because they tried to make many (not all) of them sport sedans. My point was that they need to correct that error. Look at bitkahuna, for example. He was a committed SUV-owner for many-years. All it took was one trip to the Genesis shop to look at a G90, and................
Steve (wisely, IMO) also turned down the new LS500 for a 460 instead. And I won't go into my purchase again...we've already covered it enough as it is.

Yes, the S550 certainly outdoes the LS500....less so over the 460. But it also costs more.
Anyhow, back to thread-topic Continental. You all are correct that they still are not a dime-a-dozen, even here in my area where virtually everything sells. I can count the number I've seen on the road on one hand. I've had a chance to talk to maybe 3 or 4 of their drivers here and there. Only one, a senior, actually owned his car (and just loved it). The others were company-owned cars that employees were driving...not necessarily limos, just company-owned or given to them. And they liked their Continentals, too.
But, obviously, such small numbers are not practical on a production-wide scale. Like it or not, this car is turning out to be a niche-vehicle at best. Unlike the ill-made decisions by Ford and GM to drop other sedans, there may (?) actually be a credible reason for dropping this one. A shame, too, because it is a beautiful car, inside and out.

I think people see SUVs and crossovers as more important. Eventually, the LX will outsell the LS

s.
I see at least a dozen every time I go to the airport.
Same here. I've seen a lot of Continentals in my area. Every single one was a livery vehicle. Comparing the Continental to the LS500 makes no sense. One is FWD and starts at $46,145 while the other is RWD and starts at $75,450. Silly.

So silly that MotorTrend did it. Many would say the same thing about comparing the lesser, cheaper LS to an S-Class.
