Convertible RC is going to be tremendously overweight - I cannot imagine. 4,000lbs or so for 350, 4,300lbs for RC F convertible? Yikes...
It's going to be heavy for sure, but compare it to the weights of the RS5 cabriolet (4250lb unladen) and it's fairly lineball. A RC/RC-F convertible is definitely more GT, which is what the majority of convertibles are nowadays.

Most sold convertible is Miata... Lightweight convertible.
Convertible RC will be just fine. Most buying into that are there for the statement and cruise, not the 0-60 or handling. A convertible RCF however would pose more of a problem.
Overall, the more I read, the more I'm certain the new RC is going to be a valuable sales asset to the company. The base model alone oozes with style, has a huge visible presence, and is priced right at $42k.
One last thing. Now that the RC exists, I think the current RC/IS dash and cockpit is more suited for it than the IS itself. I'd like to see the RC utilize this sporty set-up ONLY and the IS go back to something more traditional or mainstream. I am certain I am the only one who thinks this, but I'm more of a sucker for luxury on the inside (IS lacks a bit), and sport on the outside (has plenty of that). The RC fills the sport end of things, so give it the sporty interior it has. The IS could do the same on the outside, but coddle it's occupants a little more with it's own exclusive interior look. Just my two cents and no biggie.

RC imho looks a lot better than IS inside... it is small differences but they matter... i would guess that IS would get them in refresh. Things like leather covering areas that are plastic in IS (around HVAC/transmission), better designed doors and seats, etc.
They compete in two very different segments with buyers that are looking for very different cars.
New ND is being almost 1/2 the weight at 2200lb. It doesn't matter what class they are in, being a convertible RWD GT car isn't an excuse to have over 4000lb.

RS5 convertible is 4420lbs...
Not sure what does Miata have to do with RC-F. 4 wheels i guess?

RS5 is AWD, and yes it's still overweight. Any C segment coupe over 3800lb is overweight. Doesn't matter how much effort they put in engineering, they can't defy physics.
What Miata has to do with RC-F is that a small Hiroshima based carmaker can make a featherweight car, and a giant corporation can't. In fact, Toyota plans on borrowing engine from Mazda as well.

You need to do some research before you state that Toyota can't make a featherweight car.
On Monday, Lexus announced its first-ever campaign for the new RC and RC F performance coupes, which includes a spot aimed at LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) consumers.
The marketing campaign has five television sports for the two models, two of which will begin airing today with the other three to be released in the week during prime time, late night, cable and network television and cable sports.
The first two general market ads released today are the "Face Off" that introduces the RC 350 and the "No Limits" spot for the 467hp RC F.
Lexus will utilize existing footage from the general market spots to launch three additional RC F commercials geared toward multicultural audiences, including the "Flex Your Drive" for the black audience, "Shatter" for the LGBT community and "Control Power" for Latino car enthusiasts.
All spots will end with a voiceover stating, “Once driven, there’s no going back.”

Of course. Owning Daihatsu, the Kai car automaker, they can make a featherweight car. It won't pass the US crash test though. I'm prepared to be proven wrong. The new Miata ND will weight less than 2500lb while exceeding NC is safety aspect. The last lightweight sportcar from Toyota is made by Subaru, and everything development apart from styling and engine is Subaru, it also weight ~ 2750lb.
