A hardtop convertible would make it 4500 lbs or more...
That's fine. One doesn't buy a convertible to race and it always kills me to see people do that. Granted nice HP is appreciated and fast zoom, zoom times and all that but in the end they need to make this touring car on par with a luxury sedan. At the moment I'm researching on how to convert my IS350c into a touring car with a soft ride than what it is now. It's great for spirited driving but definitely not a track car like it's hard top siblings. So 4500 you say? Oh man with the right bushing set up and comfort ride this car would be a Santa Monica boulevard cruiser!!

i think you might be surprised at what people cross-shop. plus about the RC F / M4 vs Mustang...
I have a 2015 Mustang GT on order and I did not look at the RC F nor people on Mustang forums or anyone I've talked to about the car. It costs twice as much and is an apples to oranges comparison.

Spend time on M4 forums - plenty of ppl looking New Mustang, obviously some ppl are brand loyal and would only get what they prefer.
RWD 2+2 cars with over 400hp are all comparable, price is not the main thing.
you are entitled to your opinion, but IMO, m4 looks great. finally sat on it, and it was brilliant. i was put off by 'tacky' front. but in person, it doesn't look tacky at all. didn't get to drive it though.
Since the middle of the platform is taken from the ISC, doesn't that mean it already has the structural rigidity of a convertible? If so, that means they don't need to add any more weight, except the power folding mechanism
The m3 looks like a regular 4 series ( 3 series coupe?) and it's based on the same platform with the same engine.
The RC-F is made from the ground up. It's most likely another engineering monstrosity grade vehicle from Toyota/Lexus
the M3 looks as much like a regular 3 series as the RCF looks like a regular RC, or ISF to a regular IS. I'm sorry, but you're not a car guy if you cannot tell the difference. I think the M3/4 looks great. I'm gonna have to wait til i see the RC in person to judge it since the pics don't do anything for me.

Imagine seeing this badboy in your neighbourhood parking garage. The M3/M4 would never evoke anywhere near the same attention.
