inny or outy nav/info screens
car makers have gone back and forth with center stack screens, making them molded into the stack or 'sitting on top'. many brands have some vehicles with an inny and others with an outy.
was thinking about the outy and bmw/mb/audi seeming to do it more and more (although s-class is an exception for example). i'm wondering if they use outies so that the rest of the dash can be well designed if the customer chooses no nav. in-car nav is nice, but for many, they just use their phones now and let it announce directions.
maybe the s-class has the inny because no self-respecting s-class owner wouldn't want *all* the bells and whistles.
so what do you think is the future of innies and outies? both will stay?

Most cars with the "outie" screen have a smaller screen in the exact same spot when you don't spec nav, so styling probably wasn't the main concern. The S-class would've had an outie screen too had it's interior design not been frozen before these screens were ready. It doesn't help that the hardpoints stayed the same as the W221 S-class (the W222 isn't on the new MRA platform).
The premise for these screens is great- increased visibility out of the car.

My CT had an out style.
I believe it has something to do with the younger gen that are buying the entry level models. All the REAL luxury brands (Lexus, BMW, MB, and Audi) do this.
