Gran Turismo 6 is set to come to life this weekend at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. That's where Mercedes-AMG will run its Vision Gran Turismo and Nissan will show a full-size mockup of its Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo. Now Aston Martin has announced it's getting in on the action as well with its Design Prototype 100.
Aston has released a video two teaser images to give us a hint at what it's working on, but will reveal the finished product in the Supercar Paddock at Goodwood tomorrow, although we don't know if that will be in the form of a scale model, a full-size show car, a series of design sketches or a virtual rendition existing only in the game. From the look of the two images, though, it appears that we're dealing with an LMP-style racer with Aston's ubiquitous V12 mounted in the middle of a carbon-fiber chassis.
What we do know for certain is that, when it's released for download next month, it will be the latest (but certainly not the last) in a long line of concepts designed specifically for driving on the PlayStation 3.
looks way too conceptual to get an idea of what they are headed towards. Ive been pretty happy with the newer trend of concepts that seem to be much closer to the actual street version sold years after
We'll know more at Goodwood, but I'm stoked. This AM is midengine with a V12. There was a render/concept a few years ago with the AMV10. Was always hoping they'd come out with a modern midengine to tackle 458, 12C, R8 and Huracan
Following a teaser, the Aston Martin DP-100 Vision Gran Turismo has been introduced today at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, ahead of next month’s virtual debut in Gran Turismo 6.
Design Prototype 100 represents Aston Martin's virtual offering for Gran Turismo 6 and was developed in-house over the course of six months. Some have criticized AM for not making any significant changes to its designs but they can't say the same thing about the DP-100 which represents a considerable departure from the familiar look.
It's more than just a styling exercise as design director Marek Reichman says some of the visual cues "could also feed through into future sports cars that we'll launch in the offline world so the importance of this project should not be underestimated." Despite the radical styling, some One-77 and CC100 influences can be seen but these have been adapted for the Gran Turismo world.
The DP-100 is envisioned as a mid-engined supercar equipped with a V12 twin-turbo engine delivering 800 bhp (597 kW) to the 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped around in Michelin tires. Its creators say the virtual concept manages to offer "an exceptional level of detail with a fully functioning suspension system and state-of-the-art electronics" along with "active aerodynamics" which supports the car's function within the game.
The Aston Martin DP-100 Vision Gran Turismo will be available as a free download in Gran Turismo 6 starting next month.
