I did the unthinkable
Ok, here are a few photos as I had promised. I drove the car home yesterday from Kansas City. It was a heavenly drive. The new S550 feels like you are floating on air with the greatest of ease. I love everything about this car. It had effortless power and acceleration the handling is very good compared to the LS. The massaging seats are fantastic. The standard Burmester system is at least comparable to the Mark Levenson on the LS. Thete are SO many features to this car, it will take me at least a month to learn everything.
And here is a pleasant surprise. After I figured out how to display the current mph, I reset it for the last 70 miles driving home. I was going between 65 and 75 mph until I got to Des Moines when I had to obviously slow down in city traffic. The gas mileage was an amazing 30.9 mph when I pulled into the driveway. The EPA rating is understated for this car on my opinion. It's rated at 26 highway and 16 city for the 4Matic. I think I will get at least 19-20 in city driving.

I thought about a new S550 before I bought the LS F-Sport. S550 Base MSRP is 92,500. I got a fully loaded LS F-Sport MSRP that was close to 90 K, for 82.5 K. I never like buying the first year of a next generation car. I think the LS body style is way sexier.
Good luck with maintenance cost and your MB. The LS looks better and is more reliable IMHO. My good friend was a Senior MB Technician for 30 yrs, he steered me away from MB because of the reliability.
Before I bought LS, I test drove a 2014 RRS with the start/stop technology. I could feel it and hated how it kills the engine, I didn't like it. I traded a 12 RRS S/C in on the LS.
MB, ECO Start/Stop system
A fuel-saving ECO Start/Stop system automatically shuts off the engine at stoplights and other idle situations. As soon as the driver lifts off the brake, the engine instantly restarts, for immediate acceleration response.
Hope your MB treats you well. Nice car. Now a S63 is a whole other story.

The ECO Start/Stop system can also be shut off by the driver at any time. This is great, I would keep mine in the OFF position all the time.

First off congrats PatSoxfan great pick up and thanks for your contributions.
I am lucky enough to have quite a bit of experience with both now, my boss owns a 2014 W222 S 550 which was one of the first in the country and I now have a 2014 LS 460 F-sport. We recently talked our cars over having spent time in both and both cars have pluses and cons clearly. The S is a LWB and the interior we both feel is one of the best of ANY car at ANY price. It is utterly jaw dropping. The base engine is clearly more powerful and with the Renntech tune its a monster, something you simply can't do with the LS. We noticed both have some features the other does not have and the S MSRP was around $115k to the F-sport $87k.
To me the S-class is more floaty and more comfy to drive, the LS F-sport especially in Sport + is more engaging and less floaty. and drives like a smaller car. He's actually considering getting rid of it b/c its a little too detached (he's had a previous W221 S63 so that kind of is the big sport sedan standard here). The brakes on the LS are superb as well.
So far the S-class has been pretty mechanically flawless, no issues to report in 6 months. The LS I don't anticipate having any lol.
While the LS is significantly refreshed and feels updated, the W222 simply feels new as it should be, its a new car from the ground up.
Anyone having one or the other is a fortunate.
And the words I've gotten so far on the 2017 LS (debuting in 2016) clearly aim to surpass the current S-class as it is seem as the standard. As it should, its been for decades.

Congrats on the new ride. I actually liked the previous model's exterior better but the new interior is on a whole new level.
Lexfather - I have heard the same about the next LS from a very good source, it's supposed to be on a whole new level from the current LS engine-wise and tech-wise.
