Infiniti Q50 thread
BNR34
I was ready to snap away with both my iPhone and iPad in hand
There was something wrong with the vibe of the event and I lost interest in snapping
I think it started when I was walking from where I parked to the showroom
The Q50 had just emerged from the car wash and I went over to ask the wash tech a few questions about the car.
The guy was like the walking dead and there was no conversation to be had
The techs are usually the best sources of intel
Ok, back to the car
I like the look a lot
The car has real presence
I think they got the size about right, both in and out
After I calmed down and during the schmoozing the Infiniti guy said if you go easy on the pedal the car will go up to 40 mph in electric only mode
If you are going 70 on the highway and coasting slightly downhill you can get the gas engine to turn off too
When you folks see for yourselves how cool the exterior lighting is and how sweet the 14 inch rotors are, a lot of enthusiasts will do some smiling.
I totally did the angry cat and have killed some time on the website but am telling you, the sad selling GS will look even sadder after the Q50 starts chomping up customers looking for reliable Japanese built luxury without the iDrive
I thought the position of the upper nav screen was fine and the lower touch screen was fun to play with too

From your feedback, seems like the Q50 is sized to compete in the mid-size luxury segment ( 5 series, E class, GS, A6) rather than the compact-luxury segment ( 3 series, C class, A4, IS).

in Japan though they don't like it much and so far dislike this even more since they have seen their Skyline change so much. It seems really aimed for us here.
I am positive once people get past the confusing name change it will sell very well for them again.

Three new world's first production performance technologies make their debuts in the Q50 – Infiniti Direct Adaptive Steering™ technology, Active Lane Control™ and Predictive Forward Collision Warning (PFCW). The new steering system allows advanced control of the Q50's tire angle and steering inputs, transmitting the driver's intentions to the wheels faster than a mechanical system. The Active Lane Control™ uses a camera-based lane marker detection system and Direct Active Steering™ system to further enhance lane-keeping capability and improve vehicle straightability. The Predictive Forward Collision Warning (PFCW) system warns the driver of risks that lie beyond the driver's field of view. It not only can sense the relative velocity and distance of a vehicle directly ahead, but also of a vehicle travelling in front of the preceding one.
The new Q50 also offers Infiniti InTuition™, a fully customizable digital environment for linking various driver settings and driving characteristics to their Infiniti Intelligent Key, and Infiniti InTouch™ next-gen smart connectivity, featuring dual touch-screens and an array of advanced functions, features and custom apps.

The first cars have hit the US and listibgs are appearing on Autotrader and should arrive at the dealerships in this week
I have a Hybrid Sport AWD on order
Infiniti must have some pull with the media to have such a review embargo hold up like it has

That pull is "don't release the review or you won't get an invite for our next car"
this naming convention is so confusing
ive always associated Q with large flagship versions of Infiniti (Nissan Cima or the Infiniti QX, their biggest SUV)
and this step away from the engine size in the designation is even more confusing
G37, M37/56, and now Q50 is a small sedan with 3.7L engine?
is this going to do away with the G series?
and anyone see the resemblance with Mazda 6?

Q60 = G coupe
Q70 = M
QX50 = EX
QX60 = JX
QX70 = FX
QX80 = QX
You probably find the naming convention confusing because it makes absolutely no sense.
There is some prior discussion of the stupidity of the new naming convention here: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/car...er-events.html - don't know if there was an official thread on it.
It's a compelling looking car with good options and packaging. I've been saying for a while now that the Q50 (due to lack of reviews) is a wild card. The 3IS, ATS, and 3-Series are out there battling with different models trumping equivalent competition. I would also like to see a lower priced turbo 4 option to help price and fuel economy sway more buyers

This is crazy, but I just realized something between Audi and Infiniti:
The naming schemes are eerily similar. Have a gander at this:
1. Audi names all of it's sedans and coupe/hatch derivatives Ax, where x is a number denoting where it falls in the lineup. A3 is the smallest going up to A8 as the big daddy. Infiniti is doing the same, Qx0 denotes the sedan/coupe derivative, where the xy is also a number. 50 is the smallest (G) going up to Q70 as the flagship (M).
Audi's SUV line doesn't have any Xs in the nomenclature but the Q is the similarity between the two companies. Infiniti just adds the X behind the Q.
2. NEITHER of the companies even TRY to make sense with the engine displacement. Infiniti historically has done G35 (symbolizing 3.5 liters of displacement). Audi's tradition has not followed that in recent years. Ax was the only lineup badging. Extraneous engine sizes were tacked on to the trunk away from the main badge. Infiniti is now doing the same.
3. Both companies have ties to the current Infiniti boss: Johan de Nysschen. Johan used to be the big cheese for Audi USA.
===============================
It seems to me that de Nysschen really misses his time with Audi. As a result he has tried to make the company he now commands more homey. So for nostalgia's sake, he has turned Infiniti into Audi.

A4 = Q50
A5 = Q60
A6 = Q70
Q5 = QX70
Q7 = QX80
