Man, it is making me sick to my stomach to see our beloved Lexus brand not leading the luxury pack. Why wont those pre 2010 years come back?!

Come on Lexus, offer more choices and lower the prices like you did with the IS. There was a 9k price hike for the LS. The 4LS was 62k and the 4.5LS IS 71.9k. Be aggressive with your products and innovations.

That #1 crown is waiting in BMW's office for you to rightfully take back. Here's to a bright 2013 for the L!

We have been doing this list for years the CTS has been in the entry level class for years. You want to suddenly bump it up b/c the ATS came? lol

Maybe when the new model debuts it becomes a true mid size car and not a tweener and it seems they will move it up in price and in amenities.
The CTS is actually wider, taller, and longer than the GS, yet according to you it's not in the same "midsize" class as the GS and the others?

Sure, the CTS may start at $39,990 (yes, 40k, not 38k as you mistakingly mentioned), but it maxes out at $59k and the CTS-V (aka their high performance model - something the GS doesn't even offer) maxes out at $74k.

But yet, you still consider the CTS a "tweener" between entry level and mid size?

It doesn't make sense on paper, but GM did position the CTS as a tweener- it was supposed to cover the gray area between the 3-series and 5-series, C-class and E-class. Cadillac never positioned the CTS 3.6 against the E350 and 528i/535i, for example. That's why the next gen is growing in stature and luxury.

The INDUSTRY considers the CTS a "tweener" not me. For nearly a decade the CTS has been in the entry level tweener class. The entire REASON the ATS is coming is to properly position the CTS as a true mid-size car. It has rarely been included in reviews of the mid-size class. The CTS-V is an anomaly, no one else is positioned like the CTS-V.

I strongly suggest doing some extensive reading on the CTS and automotive field in general.

The CTS came out a decade ago. I realize where it was positioned at that time. But with the introduction of the ATS, it's silly to leave out the CTS on the "midsize class" lists (or to not even consider it midsize when it is in fact, larger than the current GS in length, width, and height).

What about the XTS? It sold 2,891 units in April, yet it doesn't appear to have made either of your lists
Certainly you don't consider it in the same class as the LS, 7, S,.... do you?

GS sales seem so sporadic...some months it is at 1,800 - 2,000, others it is at 1,200 - 1,300. Up then down, up then down, etc.

GS will never sell like the E or 5 because of the ES. That said, I would still like to see it around 2,000 units a month consistently. However, to achieve that, Lexus needs to get more aggressive with ADVERTISING. I've never seen an ad for the GS 450h - the halo car of the GS lineup. When the car came out, the ads focused on the car's technology - not the luxury, the design, the quality, etc. I just remember seeing a GS 350 zip through refrigerators, washers and phones while the voiceover tried convincing me that Lexus was making progress.

Some days, I swear that Lexus themselves hate the GS.

It was still positioned that way when the current gen came out. It will go in the midsize class grouping when its position relative to the ATS is realized (next-gen).

Honestly if it makes you that crazy make your own damn list.

well GS450h sells like 50 per month... so they need to lower the price so it would be something like 5k above GS350... then it would sell 10x more.

With Yen low, they might be able to do that in the future.

But people need to understand... Lexus is here for profits.. not sales.

We had pretty much the same discussion last month already. I want you to take ownership and create your own lists rather than shooting from the sidelines to poke at other members.

If there is any sort of misunderstanding that my request doesn't carry forward to this and future threads, pm me and lets discuss it.

Yea.. the GSh is priced too high to see any sort of big sales bump. For that reason, China's GS300h would have been a good thing to market over here. I think that would sell VERY well compared to the 450h.

And regarding sales vs. profits, i think theyd pretty much go hand in hand for the most part. Lots of sales = lots of profit. Unless of course they are making the GS for 48k each and can only pull off a a profit of about $500 dollars on each one.

I dont think the GS was ever meant to sell in big numbers. Looking at the past, i think it would be safe to say that it has always been the ugly duckling (sales-wise) of the family. By extension, Lexus sedans for the most part (discounting ES/LS) do not sell as well as their competition. While BMW pulls 8k on the 3, the IS makes do with 1-3k. What is worse is that Lexus is losing their pricing advantage they used to enjoy over the competition. An LS starts at 71.9k while a 7 series starts at 73k. Two thousand dollars will not be enough to convert a Beamer shopper. Contrast that with 2007 when the 4LS was introduced. It started at 62k and 67k for a SWB/LWB respectively. Back then the 750i was starting at 75.8k. 13k of price difference reduced to 2k. Now it is no wonder why Lexus struggles to sell over 900 LSs consistently. There was a time when it was the top selling flagship.

The reason Lexus does great is due to that RX. That thing just will not stop selling lol. Going by the same trend, the NX will be a very welcome addition.
