All-new Toyota Highlander snapped while testing

With the new Toyota Avalon already on sale and a redesigned Corolla coming, Toyota is hard at work on its next makeover project: the next-generation Highlander. Considering the abundance of camouflage (even the A-pillars are covered up) on this prototype, it appears Toyota is still in the earlier phases of testing its three-row crossover, but we fully expect this new Highlander to debut for the 2014 model year.

Being our first look at the 2014 Toyota Highlander, there are only a few details we notice about the new design. Obvious things include the blunt front end with a massive grille and more of a rake to the D-pillars taking away from the current model's boxy rear end, while the big wheels, chrome trim around the windows and notable ground clearance lead us to believe this might be a higher-end version of the Highlander, maybe a Limited 4WD.

The three-row crossover segment is heating up red hot, what with the sales-leading Ford Explorer now being stalked by updated Lambda crossovers from Chevy, Buick and GMC, as well as an all-new contender in the CUV-ified Nissan Pathfinder. The Highlander, already way up there near the Explorer in terms of sales, will be that much more competitive wearing whatever new skin is hiding underneath all that camo.

Yup looks like the size of the new Pathfinder and Explorer. I assume this will probably debut in the NYIAS later this year. Looks good so far.

 

i'll say......it's long overdue. hopefully the design is less van-like this time.

 

Also looking forward to this. Every new Toyota model that comes out gives me a little more hope the current Camry was just a freak mistake.

Saw these guys driving around maybe two weeks ago and thought it might be the 4Runner...

 

not frumpy or rugged enough to be a 4Runner lol. not to mention the latest 4Runner came out in 09 as a 10 model so Highlander is def next. Toyota will neglect the 4Runner/GX for awhile I'm sure as they aren't big sellers

 

It was one of the few times that I was completely thrown off by cladding and camouflage. The routes I drive on a regular basis have always been awash with Toyota/Lexus prototypes and disguised Mercs doing highway testing, so I've become pretty accustomed to seeing past the camo.

Maybe what I saw was actually the 4Runner..... although I thought it was a little soon for a 4Runner prototype.

 

Toyota already said all new Tundra and Highlander this year...

 

Speaking of new and a side note to this thread...........................I wonder what the new Venza would look like??? I hope it keeps is cool-sportier style! I think it's just rather cool!
