Toyota Matrix discontinued for 2014

Between its slow sales and the upcoming redesign of the closely related Corolla sedan, things haven't been looking good for the Toyota Matrix (for some time now). After 10 years on the market, Toyota has officially announced that it will drop the Matrix from its US lineup following the 2013 model year.
The announcement was made as a part of a press release breaking down what's new for Toyota in 2014, but for now, it doesn't look like any Toyota-branded product will fill the Matrix's spot. The Matrix and its sister car, the defunct Pontiac Vibe, were the final vehicles developed under the joint venture between Toyota and General Motors, an arrangement launched back to 1984.

Never liked the Matrix. Much preferred it's kissing "overseas" cousin the Blade which is a more upscale Auris. You can even get the blade in a 276hp 3.5L V6

I actually thought the Matrix was a really solid offering. A rental car company recommended one when I was helping a friend move some stuff and the trunk space with the rear seats folded down was quite impressive. For what it was, I thought it drove decently well too.

I was really amazed at how well engineered the Matrix is. My friend had a higher level I4 with a 5 speed auto and to be honest it was a better performing car than my CT. It was also much roomier or it felt much roomier than my CT and the headroom was very impressive. Said to see it go.
I just sold our 09 vibe AWD, the factory sister of the matrix
It had an odd driving position but was an extremely good car for the buck, roomy, flexible and cheap to own and in the end brought a good price

The xD is more like the Matrix. I believe they share the same engine and Corolla platform, whereas the xB shares the same engine and platform as the tC & Camry, IIRC.
Nonetheless, the xB is still cheaper, more powerful, more spacious, and better with insurance.
