What Aural Difference do 2 extra cylinders make?
It's easy to tell a four-cylinder engine from a 12-cylinder mill just by the sound alone. The noise of a screaming four-pot is very different from that of the high-pitched whine emitted by something akin to a Formula 1 car's engine. But what about a V6 and a V8 engine? Can you tell the difference just by the addition--or subtraction--of two cylinders between a V6 and a V8 using only your ears?
Well, Jaguar is letting us know with a short video starring its new F-Type roadster. Available with either a 3.0-liter V6 or a 5.0-liter V8, the F-Type is heard and then seen roaring away from the camera, first with the V6 and then with the V8.
Judging by the video, it seems the V8 has a more aggressive sound than the V6. What do you think?

Yeah, it seems that there is a directly proportional relationship between:
Intensity and roar of a vehicle's exhaust sound
AND
engine cylinder count
*assuming all other factors & variables are same or constant*
P.S.
Does engine displacement also have an effect as well? Or not really?

Of course displacement affects the sound of the engine. Big burbling V8s like the AMG and American cars, sound similiar, vs the low displacement high strung ones like the M3 which sound completely different.Originally Posted by Blackraven

I've heard better, sounds like everything but the engine is the same, they have similar sounds
