Default Fake M5 Engine Note!!

Since you guys are usually in the know quicker than me, you may have heard this....so this might be a repost.
I was so shocked I had to post it.

I'm reading the latest Automobile Magazine article on the new M5 and it says the enginners used a recorded engine note, which the computers play through the speakers into the cabin when you hit the gas. The reason? They made the cabin so quiet the engine sound couldn't get through and they felt that buyers would want to hear it.
They tried several different methods before coming up with the recorded sound fix.

I am shocked to hear this. What's the world coming to when fake sound is better than the real deal?

The writer said they were shocked but after driving the car, they thought it sounded pretty good and let it go. What's next, fake burnouts? Fake power slides?

I remember sceptics saying the first gen LS used a white-noise generator to make the car as quiet as it was

They should consult Yamaha to properly channel the real engine sounds into the cabin.

is this for real? like absolutely confirmed?

what happens when you turn off the audio speaker system, would the speakers still play the engine note when you accelerate?

seems like BMW is gambling with their reputation on this one

I read the same thing and it seems pretty lame. Its a simulated sound. Also why the hell would I want to hear the motor through the speakers. You guys are right. If Lexus did this the entire auto world would be talking crap

I am glad you posted this. I have read a few articles on the new M5 and this was the only one to mention the sound through the speakers. Seems very very odd and simulated or enhanced

there are multiple links for this if you google it:

personally i think this is absurd and stupid. They should make the cabin as quiet as they can, and if I wanted to hear the engine I would just crack the window open.

The thing that has me scratching my head is, why would they RECORD a sound? Why not channel the actual sound of the actual car into the cabin? What if something is changed on the car like intake or headers or something? That's just plain dumb.. Honda uses White Noise cancelers in there Odysseys n other Models.. I agree people would be flaming on Lexus if this were an IS/GS F
