Thats what I would assume the designers at BMW's M division would have done. This new system seems so contrived.

But on the outside, that V8 should still produce some noticeable noise right ?

I would hope so. Maybe that's fake too.

There is no doubt that BMW makes awesome performance vehicles, but this is really, really bad. Maybe some notes from the LFA/Yamaha engineers should have been used.

Admit that the Japanese know a little something about engineering? They'd prolly rather cut off a finger.
Besides, although we love a properly tuned Japanese engine, the Germans do it differently. They are about low revving grunt and that makes different sounds compared to Japanese high revving and efficient power.
The most practical answer would be to remove some of the soung deadening material. People buy the car anyway. Through all the changes over the years, they still sell well.

I know this is a bit off topic but I can't help myself:

So if you upgrade the speakers, will it sound better then? Cheaper than an exhaust upgrade?

Hey, that's a thought. I can hear it now....that rumbling exhaust note amplified by a 15 inch subwoofer.

Well BMW used to love using high rev engines (previous M5/M6 V10, current M3 V8, previous M3 I6) so it's not all about low end grunt.
