New NSX confirmed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would like to see the IC engine in the next NSX make at least 350hp, maybe a little more but I don't know if it is really necessary for it to be closer to 400hp if the car is getting an extra 100hp boost from the batteries/motors.
You can do it but it will have to have a very high redline and reliability/durability/NVH issues are likely to come up, fuel economy will be pretty bad. The 3.7VQ engines are very rough and thrashy in the higher rev ranges and they get poor fuel economy along with having some other issues. The power does not seem to really transmit to the pavement either as competitors with less hp generally perform very similarly or even beat them. I have not read any reviews yet on the new Hyundai V6. There are very few NA V6s putting out more then 330-350hp or coming close to 100hp per liter, most high hp ones are in the 300-306hp range. Porsche gets really big numbers from their 6cylinders in the 911, but they are flat 6s that are really expensive.

You don't think Honda can easily make a direct injected 3.5L V6 to put out 400 hp today? That is only 114 hp / liter.
I am not really a huge fan of using a hybrid set up though as it adds weight, complexity, cost, and will most likely affect the purity/interaction of the car and driver.

How will the new engine fare? Not sure, but I have no doubt the current technology can support a 400 hp V6. There is nothing wrong with a high revving engine. Yes it can translate into more wear, but if the engine was built to withstand it, then I have no problem with a high redline. Honda has shown they can combine reliability and high stung motors in a road car. They showcased that in the S2000. The NSX doesn't need to rev to 9000RPM, but I would be happy with only 8000. Honda engines sound fantastic when they rev
Amazing thread on Prime: NSX 2.0 Design Study and comparison to the Infinti Emerg-E and previous NSX:

it does nothing to me if it indeed comes as a gas-electro hybrid. people don't spend 100k on a freaking car worrying about gas prices. i don't get all the 6 figure cars with hybrid system, it'll just take the joy our of the driving excitement compare to plain 'ol simple gas motors. it's just too gimmicky for me.
I'm sorry but it looks too much like an Audi R8. That being said, I feel as if this second gen NSX will not be as cool or land marking as its predecessor. Seriously its as if its entirely based on an R8 or McLaren MP4.
edit: It will be cool.

When I saw this pic on Prime it had just about sold me on the new style. Aside from the original HSC, this is the only concept car that clearly shows some NA1/NA2 roots and history. IMHO, I can now see the original NSX design concept in the so called NSX 2. If I can afford on I'd like to own one someday. Depending on how good this car actually turns out to be, I would even sell my NA1. Would love to have both though.
Recent patent filings for the convertible, so it might make production.
Pics galore of the convertible. It looks sweet!

It's clearly built on an existing NSX with 252k miles. Give me the body kit!
