that was my thinking too... but i have no idea why they did that (and we had multiple sources confirm same news)...

I work @ Toyota and got the first glimpse @ the new 2013 Avalon yesterday. The best way I can describe it is having the front fascia of a Jaguar/Maxima and the rear of the new model Hyundai Sonata. For those doubting the vehicle and it's appearance, I assure you you will be nothing short of amazed, it's going to re-define the Toyota flagship car. The appeal is to drive new Toyota customers and younger customers (avg Avalon buyer is probably 55+). Very secretive about this so that's why you won't be able to find pictures of it online, I assure you all the spyshots I found online were all inaccurate.

Interesting report. Having a hard time trying to picture similarities of a Maxima and Jaguar front clip, but hopefully it's the best of those two combined. Thanks for sharing with us.

I think about this all the time, which one makes more sense to buy, an ES or an Avalon? Yes the ES has better quality materials throughout, but Avalon's interior is not low rent and it's bigger. And they both drive similar. Hmm...
Can't wait to see the new Avalon, I always have a weak spot for this car.

The Avalon is the better buy IMO

I've also noted before, that the Avalon is one of the most anticipated products of the year for Toyota/Lexus. I haven't seen direct pictures/images, but have spoken with many product planners within the company.

Likewise. Clearly not part of the demographic that would purchase an Avy, but I love me some big soft riding cars.

I know, I am only in my early 30s. And I already had 4 Avalons.

I compare them too. ES is higher class but the Avalon is bigger.

I guess pick the one that is more important to you, class or size.

Or the one that got both, the LS. Why you got rid of your LS again?

I've always liked the avalon. Especially the touring one from the current generation, loved the dark look and the dark rims.

It was for my business startup, I sold all my cars I had and now just have a leased car for tax write off.
After my house purchase closed this month, I will start looking for a nice car!

Sounds very similar to what we have been saying/hearing. The ES & Avalon are supposed to be lookers.
