2012/13 Toyota Rav4/Corolla??
I assume they are artist renderings, but figure I'd post it anyway.

Next gen Corolla Auris testing

Current Corolla Auris

Not sure exactly.
But this is supposed to be what the next RAV 4 will look like.
A giant leap from the current aging design. With even some small trace of the FT86 concept .
The next RAV4 will also get an EV version, thanks to the partnership with Tesla.
A hybrid is scheduled as well. Basically matching what Ford is doing.
And getting ready for that $5 a gallon coming up sooner or later....

Current Corolla Auris

The curent Auris is basically a hatchback version of the Corolla, for the European market.
With a much better interior than what were getting over here.
The next version is due in 2012 as a 2013 Model.
And this time, we might also be getting the hatchback version in the US.
Which will allow Toyota to better compete with the new Focus, Elantra etc...
A hybrid version will be offered in Europe. Not sure if it will make it over here.

I've heard that the new Corolla is a radical departure from the current car, which is encouraging to say the least. The comment verbatim was, "If the car didn't say 'Corolla', you'd have never guessed it was one...maybe not even a Toyota."
I'm not necessarily excited by that alleged Rav4 pic...looks like a Suzuki or something.

What does the badging say on the Corolla's fenders? Hybrid maybe?
Toyota would be wise to make the Corolla more exciting. It's been hit from all sides by Ford, Hyundai and Mazda which, imo, have very stylish compact sedans (and hatchbacks) with lots of tech goodies, luxury (For a compact anyway) and great mileage to boot (maybe not so much the Mazda3 but the SKYDrive engines are coming)

Where did you hear that from?
If we can use the new Yaris and Prius v as an indication of Toyota's new design direction, I think we will see edgier designs: less rounded styling; crisper edges; and sharper creases; but without the flaming that has been prevalent on BMWs, Mercedes-Benzes and the Honda Accord. The new design direction may be edgier, but still recognizable as Toyotas.
For this reason, I am not sure that the drawing of the "new RAV4" is true to form. Regardless, I have read that the new RAV4 is already in pre-production at TMMC's Woodstock, Ontario plant (the new Canadian plant that assembles the RAV4). If you have any contributors who work at TMMC Woodstock (or any contributors who know people who work there), they MAY be able to confirm or deny how true to form the RAV4 drawing is.
I don't know if the drawing of the "new Corolla" is true to form. To me, it looks very much like the previous-generation Corolla -- especially the smaller model that was available in East Asia -- but with a few curves sharpened up to match the new design direction. Is that enough to indicate: "If the car didn't say 'Corolla', you'd have never guessed it was one...maybe not even a Toyota"? I don't know. I believe that the picture of the "new Auris" is merely a test mule, with an old (current-generation) body placed upon the new platform and mechanicals; Toyota tends to do this to disguise their new models while out testing.
I would prefer to wait for something directly from Toyota. (Why would we see any indication of the new RAV4 and Corolla at this point when we really have not seen any real indication at all of the new Camry, which is due to be introduced much sooner -- in a month's time?) The RAV4 should be along soon enough.

That Rav4 is hideous. Looks like a combo between a RDX and a Freelander with some hint of Hyundai Whatever and the Forester. I was looking to see how the new Rav4 would be like, but if this is an accurate rendering, I dunno.
That should not be difficult: just pair the great, modern ZR/AR engines in the current Corolla and RAV4 with modern 6-speed or CVT transmissions that are available elsewhere (Europe, for instance).
Yes, there is a lot of style in the new Hyundai Sonata and Elantra but style alone is not enough. There has to be substance as well.
