Default I am shock!

We are in the market for a Tacoma and were browsing around the dealership show room one day. As the saleman was getting the key for a test drive, I went over and checked out the Land Cruiser to kill time. I've heard about its reputation for being reliable and built like a tank. I don't really have much interest in big SUV so never really pay much attention to its pricing. I saw the sticker price posted on the window and I thought it was a mistake so I keep looking. After the initial shock set in, I realized that the price posted for a 11 Land Crusier was around $77K. Are all large SUVs around this price? Is it justifiable that it cost more than most of the Lexus line up?

A friend bought one brand new a few year back and paid cash for it. I now know the dude is loaded.

LC has always been priced high and is seen as Range Rover competition overseas even though it wears a Toyota badge. The car is sold in limited quantities here and is as indestructible as it gets. Not sure if the price is justifiable but some people do buy it, even if its a 100 or so a month.

TheToyota LC costs more than
entire Acura line
entire Infiniti line
entire Saab line
entire Lincoln line
entire Volvo line

The LX starts around 75k and hits 85k loaded. Range Rovers can top 100k.

Land Cruiser is basically an LX570 without some luxo bits, so yes, pricey.
I doubt Toyota sells many in the U.S. at least. It's into Range Rover territory.

Huge, 4x4, off-road capable SUVs are always expensive. Don't compare it to soft-road FWD crossovers.

The last gen LC was ~$56k base. It has a 265hp V8 getting 13/17 mpg.

The current LC is ~$68k base, but with huge upgrades from the previous generation. It currently has 381hp getting 13/18mpg, and a lot more technology.

The Lexus LX is $78k base. For the price, I'd spend the extra $10k for the upgraded materials, quieter cabin, and marque privilege.

No, not all large SUVs have always been this pricey, but some of them have been.

The Land Cruiser sold in the US is the high-end Land Cruiser model. For a long time it's been known for luxury, being virtually indestructible, and for it's off-roading abilities. For many the price is well worth it.

In some parts of the world Toyota sells more "basic" Land Cruiser models with a lot less luxury. Naturally, they cost a lot less than the US Land Cruiser we have here.

sequoia is actually priced cheaper. but yes, LC has always been very pricey, but it's always worth it imho. i have worked on quite a few LC and sequoia, the LC blows away. it's so nice. yes, price is high, but it's what it is. LC is the first toyota to hit the US, and toyota is keeping it. it's also a very limited production car, very few comes to the US. the lx570 is another step up, and that's another 10k on top.

keep in mind though, both LC and lx570 have tremendous resale value. prices of used ones are very very high compared to most other vehicles. you don't see that often

I have a new found respect for the LC. I sure won't be looking at it as just another Toyota.

LC is a legend on desert and many places for a longtime along with RR.
It's not just another toyota.

no kidding, it's really not just another toyota. it carries the badge, but it's really up there. the materials and finish are great. granted, the lx570 is even better, but it's far better than most other toyota imho

nop, it's very true. and even a used 2-3 yr car with decent mileage, it's in the 50s range. that show how strong the resale is.

Really, I am surprise you said that.

RR looks REALLY nice, but they are consistently the worst quality vehicle money can buy, by far. You should learn the problem they have when they are 1-2 years old. Their resale value is a joke since they need so much repair, I always say a RR is the cheapest used car to looks like you are driving a $100k car
