They do look alike. But that is one of the worst pictures of the new Explorer I've seen. Those wannabe S4 wheels and tires are far too small for the body.
That's the way it's supposed to be (more or less) with off-road-capable SUVs. You don't want overly-big wheels and rubber-band tires when you're off-road in the rough. And the wheel-cutouts have to be large enough for the wheels/suspension to have plenty of up-and-down travel for clearance over large off-road obstacles. That's why many SUVs like this still have 70-series tires.
As far as S4-type tires go, though, I agree......you can't (or, at least, shouldn't) stick sport-sedan tires on an off-roader like this. The tires should be high-profile, AND still allow plenty of suspension-travel in the wheel-wells without rubbing the insides of the fenders.
I don't understand why Landrover add another SUV to their line-up. . . . don't they have enough already I would love to see they come out with a luxury sedan or sport GT.
