Big Mack, funny I was going to add "its not some peoples fault that they like and can buy nice things and it attracts people attracted to such things".

PuffDaddy said it in a song..."Thats a Bentley to you but to me its just a baby blue car"

I think what we're really talking about here, and correct me if I'm wrong, is what gets a girl/woman's initial interest. If you can't hold onto her interest after that, than you're S.O.L. But that's another discussion altogether...
Well, my philosophy differs from many in society, and that's completely okay. I know that's he's not a noted laureate, but Groucho Marx said it well - I wouldn't want to belong to any club that would have me as a member.

You are correct in that the man himself actually has to maintain the interest of the person he wants in his life, but we have a fundamental disagreement in that I don't think you need to drive a fancy car simply to "get" the interest. If that's the only way I can gain her interest, I wouldn't give her the time of day. Does it help? The simple answer is yes.

I've gone out with several very attractive womens, and they knew me before they knew what I drive, what I own, or anything else. I'm definitely not a supermodel, rock star, movie star, etc., but I do have the intelligence and social skills that many lack. Those are the type of women that I think more guys should strive to meet, but I defer to the societal norms since I know it won't change. Doesn't mean I have to bow down to it. I'm happily single.

It's both funny and true. The truly sad part is the man who can, does, and then the womens get hurt because they feel like he should have changed for them. Really? That's the problem? Not that you shouldn't improve your standards, but he shouldn't treat you like you would treat him if he lost the money/fame/lifestyle?

Ladies of this forum please note - despite speaking in generalities, I know not everyone falls into these categories. There are good and bad in both camps.

Yes, from the man who prides himself on being "All About the Benjamins," and is about as superficial as they come. Talk about reinforcing the stereotype...

I hear ya, Big Mack. More good sense. Most women are superficial like this - but not all. My first serious relationship that lasted seven years (and this girl was really pretty) started when I was driving an old 1970 Nova (in 1989) with a rusty hole that had a bird's nest in it...

Well a smart man/women can tell who is superficial and who isn't, including friends, co-workers, family, the priest

If it's your first impression of a person, man, woman, potential mat, or just a business associate, yes. On a subconscious level, we all do it to some extent.

It's no different than the peacock with the brightest feathers, the elk with the biggest antlers, or the baboon with the reddest bu... well you know. We all initially judge someone based on looks, clothes, car, or even just how they carry themselves walking through a crowd. It's human nature. And to some extent, those impressions stay with us for a long time, if we don't have an ongoing relationship with them.

But you absolutely correct. Once we start to deal with someone on a day to day basis, it's who we are as people that really matters to others.

I don't know if i am alone in this, but to some degree, a woman needs to be attracted to what I drive. If she's not, we won't have much in common. I drive cool stuff because that's part of who I am, i dont do it for other people, but at the same time, if she has no interest in cars, I'm really not going to be very interested in her for more than a day.

I know the 911 has the badge but does anybod think the regular 911 and 911s looks kind of plain? I live in irvine/newport area and 911's kind of blend in with all the other cars around here. it seems like you need the turbo or GT3 to set yourself apart. now that i think about it even the m3 and c63 kind of blend in unless they are modded.

Yes the faster/modded cars will attract more attention from some, but it might not be the target audience your seeking.

pretty well actually! it narrows down the field quite a bit but at least i know we have fun things to do together like car shows, or whatever.
I can't stand those women who don't do anything except shop for more useless crap like shoes or handbags or whatever else they can waste money on.

I concur. Having something in common certainly does help relationships with womens. Nothing wrong with some shopping, provided it's not an obsession, but outside interests are good things. Even better if she's got her own friends and doesn't mind having a girls' night out, and is good with a boys' night, too. Too much time together can be stifling, and that's never going to end well.
