2005-67,577
2006-75,987 Sales are steady all years.

2008-64,135 Economic Crisis hits
Jan-Jul-24,756
Total 1,000,765

As one can see 2007 was the best year for the ES.
I added my thoughts. The ES is by far the best selling and successful entry level luxury Japanese sedan. Nothing is close to its consistency. Amazingly the IS has done NOTHING to hurt sales, Lexus has done a great job having two cars aimed at two different buyers at the same price. People can hate it for being "boring" but every brand WISHES they had a consistent car like the ES.

1999-90,338 Big gamble pays off, no competition is close

2003-92,366 Amazing it sold its best its last year
2004-106,531 2nd gen model and it takes the RX to new heights
2005-108,775
2006-108,348
2007-103,340 Sales all those years are UNPRECEDENTED
2008-84,181 While a big dip, nothing to sneeze at
Jan-Jul-47,780 (new sales goal is 70k)
Total 981,912

As one can see 2005 was the best year for the RX.
The RX was a huge gamble and clearly has paved the way for others and paid off handsomely. It is THE luxury SUV. No one is close to its sales and accolades. Like the ES, "boring" pays off very well. Amazingly the RX faces STIFFER and STRONGER competition today (and actually many more competitors) than in 1999 and it continues to dwarf the class. What is amazing about the NEW RX is its sales gap has widened where its not even a race.

1991-36,955 strong, not a fluke
1992-32,561
1993-23,783 MMC
1994-22,443
1995-23,657 Yen rose and Lexus was to conservative with redesign
1996-22,237 Steady
1997-19,618
1998-20,790 MMC, a LS favorite model...
1999-16,357
2000-15,871
2001-31,110 All new model, big jump in sales
2002-26,261
2003-23,895
2004-32,272 MMC is a hit. Seems 2004 was a good year for peope
2005-26,043
2006-19,546
2007-35,226 Amazingly the all new model, more expensive than ever sells better than ever. Only 1990 was stronger!
2008-20,255 Huge drop as the market sours
Jan-Jul-5,731 Continues to suffer with the market
Total 497,417

As one can see 2007 was the best year for the LS.
The LS debut is truly significant when you realize that 42k is A LOT of vehicles for a flagship NEW luxury brand. The LS came out the gate strong and survived the very very staid 95 redesign, which got updated in 98. The LS 430 did very well in 01 and 04, the MMC was a huge hit with people.

The LS 460 has proven how the LS is part of the status quo, offering LWB, AWD, etc whereas previous models were pretty much one size fit all.

1993-18,450 It was very hip in its debut
1994-12,905 Huge drop
1995-7,797 Another huge drop which the ES/LS sedans didn't encounter
1996-2,500 MMC does nothing to help
1997-175 Egads this is awful! See what happens when u have no V-8 in this class? You die!!!
1998-30,565 "Something Wicked this way Came"!!
1999-30,326 Amazingly steady
2000-26,705
2001-24,461 MMC with 430 debuting
2002-17,246
2003-13,306
2004-8,262 Very old in its model cycle
2005-33,457 All new model met sales goals
2006-27,390 Not as steady as the 2GS, 20% drop
2007-23,381 More steady
2008-15,759
Jan-Jul-4,107 Really getting hit in the head
Total 296,792

As one can see 2005 was the best year for the GS.
The GS debuted in a segment used to choice. The one drivetrain, one engine did not work here even with good styling. We all know the 2GS fixed this and cemented the GS as the Japanese sports luxury sedan to have. The 3GS actually is the best selling GS for one year but sales have not held steady. Oddly the 3GS has had the most "updates" compared to previous GSs.

2000-15,540 Debuts in June so not bad for 1/2 a year
2001-22,486 Pretty good
2002-20,306 Steady
2003-13,559
2004-9,972 I do have to say the G35 really hurt the IS 300 by this point...
2005-15,789 Sales rose as new model debuted very strong
2006-54,267 Passes 48k sales goal and is a HUGE hit
2007-54,933 Actually rises
2008-49,432 steady in a down market!! IS-F debuts
Jan-Jul-19,710 Doing well
Total 275,994

As one can see 2007 was the best year for the IS.
As we know the IS was the first RWD Japanese entry level sports sedan and sold pretty well the first 3 years then fell quickly. I don't think the 2IS gets enough kudos for being such a great car for Lexus in regards to sales. It has been VERY VERY steady for the brand in a HOT and very competitive segment.

The IS+ES combo is a hit!

2004-35,420 Strongest year
2005-34,339 Steady
2006-25,454
2007-23,035
2008-15,759 Not bad considering this is now a 7/8 year old SUV
Jan-Jul-3,994

I was not a fan of the GX when it debuted but its clear LExus again was right that there was room for a 3rd SUV. Again 2004 was a best year for a Lexus. Considering the GX today has much more competition and NEWER competition its pretty amazing it has sold as well later in life. To be honest I was expecting it to dwindle to a few hundred a month.

1993-16,755 What a big drop!
1994-5,880 All coupe sales were dropping...yen rose
1995-15,872 MMC helped tremendously
1996-4,763 Ouch
1997-4,890
1998-2,771 another MMC
1999-2,815
2000-631 Ouch
2001-14,333 What a debut for the new SC 430
2002-14,462 Steady
2003-10,298
2004-9,708 Steady
2005-8,360
2006-5,847 MMC and updates but its clear sales will continue to drop
2007-3,927
2008-1,986 Ouch
Jan-Jul-542 Time for an update
Total 151,727

As one can see 1992 was the best year for the SC.
The SC came out the gate hot but cooled fast. That is how the coupe market is, its a style conscious "new is in" segment. The 95 updated helped a lot with interest. The SC 430 as we know was a hot car at the time that has cooled off. I am not sure why Lexus insists on such long cycles for its flagship coupe if its not going to update it constantly.

1997-9,186 In two years was the best selling full size luxury SUV
1998-6,465
1999-14,723 First full year for all new model
2000-14,732 Amazingly steady
2001-9,320

2003-9,193
2004-9,846 Again 2004 was a STRONG year...Steady for 4 years
2005-8,555
2006-5,595 Steady after the drop
2007-2,468
2008-7,915 All new model
Jan-Jul-1,957
Total 114,584

As one can see 2000 was the best year for the LX.
The LX is an amazingly steady seller looking at the above, I wasn't aware of this. There is a target market for it. The new 08 model debuted right as the market implodes, I wonder what sales goals were? It will be lucky to get 50% of the sales of 08

Interesting analysis, 1SICKLEX! Interesting to discover that the ES was completely unaffected by IS sales; although it did lose the top spot to the RX, its trendlines still hold strong. 1GS sales ended in near disaster and IIRC they had to resort to fleet sales, a once-only move Lexus would never do again. The 2SC is some ways has been an attempt to do something different in response to traditional coupe sales drop-offs, and with the folding hardtop they manage to stretch out a niche design longer...sort of like how the GX/LX have also had a small but dedicated market. Right now it's a down situation worldwide, but the best-ever numbers in 2007 give reason to hope that in future years sales may see similar heights again.

Its clear America either became more affluent or is acting like its more affluent as we have seen more Lexus models and they all at least debut successful with most holding steady before falling off. The RX and ES by far are the most well received in regards to sales. The RX and ES are also the among the two LEAST covered Lexus vehicles in regards to the media. The ES also continues to sell strong even as the competition has gotten better, from the TL/G35/Buicks and even Toyotas own Avalon.

I don't see the SC ever selling as well as it did in 1992 simply b/c of price and the element of surprise. It maybe one of the best valued luxury coupes of all time. THe yen really hurt sales for the coupe. The SC 430 is odd now that I think about it that it DROPPED the 300 choice and became the old method "I drivetrain/engine" Lexus. I wonder if a SC 300/350 were sold how it would help sales?

Its amazing how well received a Lexus model is looking at these sales.

I believe BMW had the crown in 1999. Since 2000 Lexus has had it in America.
