why does the 5 sell and lease so many, while being the most expensive too?

i just don't get people.

 

they are going at really low prices. leases for 0 down, free maintenance, its a good deal. plus, i think bmw is getting rid of them because the new 5 will be coming soon

Thx a lot for the data, Trexus! The contributors to other Lexus sales sources don't have this full data set up yet. Totaling, one finds that Lexus has sold over 3 million vehicles in the U.S. to date.

The numbers also clarifies something I've heard, a so-called 'expert' claiming that "the RX makes 60% of Lexus sales, that is their weak spot" is twice off; the RX averages a solid 33% of sales through the 2000's. Along with the ES, which averages 25% of sales, both two models have continued to grow strongly over time, each with some fade at the end of the cycle; IS sales shot up to the third best-selling Lexus spot with the 2nd gen and have shown similar strength over time; SC/GX/LX sales remain steady and niche-category.

Interestingly, GS sales shoot up at the first year or two, then decline, and while regarded as less successful than others, the 3GS has exhibited a similar pattern in sales over time as previous models, but perhaps a year+ faster fade than the 2GS (although multiple model declines in 2008 may be explained in part due to the global recession).

1GS was expensive at the time and felt kind of under powered.
2GS had a looooong run, and given how little they changed it pretty impressive staying power in sales
3GS had a strong start (market was dying for a new one!) but sales have fallen fairly quickly, but in fairness recent history is definitely whacked by the economy, but also affected by MUCH stronger competition and cannibalization by stronger ES and IS offerings.

i really, really, want to see lexus get another home run with the 4GS.
