Is there a future for the Sequoia?
We have two Toyota FJ's sitting on the lot here in Canada offering $11,000 off the sticker price. We also have three Toyota Sequoia's that have not moved off the lots since they were introduced back in February. These Sequoia's are brand new models in their first model years. I can't imagine how hard they will be able to sell in two to three years from now.
Is there a future for the Sequioa?
Will it get a redesign?
Will Toyota just cancel it?
I know the Toyota is trying to sell off the 2008 models but the 2009 Lexus LX570 is now on lots. They are moving and usually sell for about $30k more than the Sequoia. They can move pretty much the same amount of people, cargo, and trailers as the Sequioa.
I think Toyota's SUV line up will eventually shrink to Rav, Highlander, 4runner, Land Cruiser and will likely cancel the Sequioa. Toyota originally forcasted sales of 60k units but will likely sell about 30k
I wonder what others on the board think.

When you take it on their "off road" track at car shows, it makes you want to buy one....
I tried to tip it over on the hills at the OC Auto Show...didn't work but it did scare the crap out of me since it was so stable at such a steep angle...

I think there will be a future for the Sequoia, however here in NY I do see a lot of new generation models floating around compared with the Land Cruiser which I think I have probably seen the Land Cruiser only once, I actually see more LX 570s so if anything the Land Cruiser may go first.

To have a Toyota SUV be $5k (or only 8% less) than a Lexus SUV is not the reasonable, especially since the LX(LC) is a low volume vehicle.

I reviewed one, on request, last winter. It's a pretty good vehicle for heavy towing and people-hauling, and I think there could be a future for it, but Toyota needs to do some work on it. The drivetrain, like most Toyota-designed products, is smooth, quiet, and refined, and it rides fairly well, but handling is ponderous, requiring a LOT of care on corners and narrow roads. The interior and exterior trim/sheet metal quality/thickness are also below par, not surprisingly, because it is based on the Tundra pickup, which is also poor in those areas.
With more quality in the interior, sheet metal, a little better ride/handling combo, and, perhaps, a hybrid version for better mileage, there may be a future for it, but I am not terribly impressed with it in its present form.

It doesn't cost Toyota that much to have the Sequoia since it's a spin on the Tundra platform.
It'll have a future (big families, towing needs etc). just more limited with specific needs in mind.
The LX570 is one of the hottest demand vehicles right now. I see lots of LX570's and new Sequoia's around, but almost zero of the Land Cruiser. If I had the money I'd buy a Land Cruiser. I've seen them for about $12K off sticker, bringing it down to about $60K.

A low volume platform like the Land Cruiser/LX570 may be harder to justify in the future if they can't sustain demand. But the Land Cruiser has a good following worldwide that will continue to supply ample demand i'm sure.

Hey Paul, Toyota said they are coming (all vehicles by 2020 I think) but I am making the assumption that they DON'T want to do it b/c hybrid tech= costly and it turns a cash cow into a less attractive car to sell from a business case.
They also just built that plant in TX and I don't think its equipped for Hybrids. I believe all hybrids are made in Japan.
