I'm looking to get into cheaper cars since I'm within a few years of rebuilding the house on my dads property. I was thinking of moving down to an Avalon, Camry, Accord, or on the higher end a G35S for mid $30K. Perhaps this car might be the best choice yet.
I thought the car looked nice inside and out, but wasn't sure if I could drive a Hyundai just yet. After seeing the photoshop pics and the specs I think I'm ready to jump into a Hyundai Man, I don't care how this car drives as I'm probably goint to bag it and put some 20" or 21" rims (Depending on how large the car really looks in person) on it anyway. The great thing about a car like this is it can be the perfect daily driver. Right now I have a bone stock old cheap Camry for a DD and drive the Lexus and BMW on other occations. Can you image instead of buying an Accord or Camry for a daily beater, for a little more money you can buy this Hyundai, still save gas because it runs on regular, the car looks great, has lots of power, more than likely will have a very long warrantee which are all perfect for daily drivers.
I could actually see two Hyndai's in my garage. This one and the Hyundai Coupe we talked about a few months ago.
PS, you guys don't like the front grill? I actually like it. I really like the front end a lot. This car is pretty hot IMHO.
My thoughts exactly!! For the price of one european or japanese luxury car you can buy the genesis sedan AND genesis coupe... all with GREAT warranty

There's a whole lot of maturity at this forum compared to others that I visit. I have to say, most domestic American car forums can't deal with this new Hyundai. Most everyone here, I suppose with Lexus being in a similar 'boat' back in 1989, can see where Hyundai is going in the future.
I, for one, am very impressed.
Two things I didn't already see mentioned.. Kia will be getting an even less expensive version of this vehicle (however, note the coupe) - and Hyundai is already testing their larger vehicle - soon to come.
A full-size Hyundai SUV is on the horizon also.. I'm amazed at where Toyota has gone with Lexus - and Hyundai is following in the same exact footsteps.. Interesting times are ahead...

No. Just no. Lexus, or any of the Japanese big three were never in the same boat as Hyundai. The Japanese actually brought countless innovations and breakthroughs, and are continuing to do so. Just about every new model from the Japanese had a huge impact on the industry, from the cheapest 70's Civic, to the 89's LS400, to todays LS600h-L, and thats just to name a few. If it wasn't for the Japanese, the automobiles nowadays would probably be somewhere around 80's standards - hell, some of the US domestic models still are.
And you're saying Hyundai is following in Toyota's footsteps? Name a single innovation from Hyundai? Ripping off other's designs doesn't count. As far as this Genesis, or whatever it's called, it will probably sell well because it will be price way less than competition - but it's easy for Hyundai to underprice thier models because they do not spend a penny on R&D.
But would anyone pay Lexus money for this Hyundai? Me personally - I wouldn't take a crap into it, never mind driving one.
Think what you want. Hyundai is following in Lexus' footsteps in the same way that Toyota brought great products at great value to the U.S. market. Whether Hyundai innovates or not is kind of a moot point when probably 99.99% of the car buying population doesn't even consider it when shopping for a vehicle.
Its only a matter of a very short time that Hyundai will be selling luxury vehicles for just a little less than Lexus does like the way Lexus does compared to Mercedes. Laugh all you want now... Just like Lexus in 1989.

Nope. Without innovation they will never have the prestige and respect of Lexus or Mercedes. They will be selling luxury vehicles, but for way less than Acura, never mind Lexus.
The problem with innovation is that only last until everyone has it. The Japanese and Germans may have brought a lot of innovation to the market, but once everyone else has it price, reliability, quality, and looks take over in no particular order. I can honestly say I wouldn't care if Hyundai keeps on copying all the great styles and innovation of other companies as long as the final package is good and beats their prices, and is something I can live with I'd buy it. I like to buy what I think are good cars and fit what I want and need. Since I don't buy cars for brand image or prestige, it wouldn't matter one way or another if the Hyundai Luxury brand name reaches the status of Mercedes or Lexus. Their nitch should be bringing 98% of what the higher Luxury names offer but at a much better price. I think with this 4-Door Genesis and their Genesis Coupe they are well on their way.

Very true... I didn't know chrysler invented power steering until recent commercial. But does that mean I'll only buy chryler? NOPE! I dont buy cars because of stupid name. I buy cars that offer value and Hyundai seem to offer just that w/o sacrificing safety.

It's funny Mercedes guys think just like this... they think lexus will never have the prestige and respect as MB's EVER(Hope I didn't offend anyone but it's true). How do I know this? I own a mercedes and I'm a member at www.MBworld.org
I personally think lexus is a great brand that's why I visit this forum and I was considering one for my next vehicle.

Uhh yea like japanese companies don't copy others? Companies are copying each other. They can only do so much to a machine with 4 doors, 4 wheels, hood and a trunk. I'll give you one thing that hyundai did to revolutionized the industry. Ever heard of the 'America's best warranty'? No other company offered longer warranty than hyundai. Now some companies are following that same strategy.
Of course nothing is innovative technology-wise from hyundai since they were busy trying to catch up to other big guys. Who would've thought Toyota would offer such innovation as hybrid technology some time ago?
Are you sure they don't spend a penny on R&D? I think they do... probably alot!

The reason why I don't buy cars based on prestige or image is I hate to be that type of person. Generally speaking, the higher name brand cars are indeed better cars over all, thus the reason why I buy certain luxury cars. However, if one is concerned about the image or prestige that their car projects, that too me only shows one feels the need to make a statement to others that they are in some way higher class, or above the average person in status.
One I see a nice BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, Honda, or whatever on the road, I think "Wow, nice car", not wow, nice Mercedes.
Hyundai made a splash at the Detroit auto show with the introduction of its Genesis sedan--the product it aims to use for an attack on the large sedan segment.
But even though the Genesis will go on sale in the United States later this year, not every detail is set in stone yet.
Hyundai is toying with two widely different grille treatments for the Geneis, and both have been on display at the Hyundai stand in Detroit.
The main Genesis show car has a split waterfall and eschews the Hyundai logo. Tucked in a back corner of the stand is a second Genesis with a more traditional Hyundai grille with horizontal bars and an integrated Hyundai "H" logo.
Hyundai officials say they are watching to gauge reaction to the grilles.
For the Korean versions, fuel efficiency specs for the Genesis are:
3.3L: 10.0 km/liter
3.8L: 9.6 km/liter
In comparison, Korean Grandeur (Azera) specs are:
3.3L: 9.0 km/liter
3.8L: 8.6 km/liter
FYI, US Azera mpg:
3.3L: 18/26
3.8L: 17/26
----------------------------------------------
As you can see, both versions of the V6 Genesis gets more than 10% better fuel economy than the Azera, despite the Genesis being more powerful, heavier and RWD, at least for the Korean spec.

Interesting. One of the few shortcomings with some Hyundai models, especially the V6's, is gas mileage vs. the competition. Looks like they may have addressed that in their new gen engines.
