This is actually not too hard to fix. Either retro in the factory seat heaters, or install any one of the many aftermarket setups.

No more difficult than installing an aftermarket stereo.

Oh... And swap or fix that motor. The car's too clean to let slip away over a blown engine. Fix it and keep going. You will thank yourself later.

I am now the proud owner of an '05 Legacy GT Limited. Loaded with everything from heated seats, dual zone climate control, and even heating elements to melt frozen wiper blades. I can even program the mirror to automatically open the gate of my estate. Yes, it's a luxury car without the badge. The fit and finish is top knotch. I'm really impressed.

This vehicle features a 2.5L H4, complete with turbo, intercooler, and an SPT exhaust. The original owner also opted for the Momo short throw shifter which is nice, but rigid. It is probably the fastest car I've ever driven. I'd like to take it to the track and see just how fast. Car and driver reported 0-60 in 5.3 seconds. It has continental tires, which I'm not crazy about, but for all the power this engine puts down (in a 3300 lb car) it really stays planted to the road.

Will post some better pictures soon.

Congrats! I looked around craiglist a while back, and noticed you can get one of this generation for fairly good value. I really liked the interiors of these cars, and the doors shut with a nice thud. You are right that its pretty much a luxury car without the badge, very nice car!

Oh the doors have a great, secure thud to them. I was surprised. I got it for a steal though. It needs a clutch soon, but I got it for well below the blue book value since it has a couple mods and dealers don't like to deal with that. If you try and find an '09 however, they are much pricier. I think I got really lucky because the addition of turbos to the Legacy and the Impreza have made them hard to come by. And the folk jumping ship from the big SUVs are headed to the efficient N/A Subarus, which makes me think I can get some money for my '99 Legacy GT.

Congratulations on the 2005.

Oh the doors have a great, secure thud to them.
On the older, frameless-window Subies, that solidness was more characteristic of the rear doors than the front ones. The front ones, especially if you close them with the windows part or all-way down, tend to rattle a little when they closed. They went out, to some extent, with the new window-frame-enclosed models....but, unfortunately, so did some of he rear-door solidness.

I spent four hours in the shop last night and the engine is almost out. I've never pulled an engine on a car before, since this has been a great learning experience for me. Anyway, I drained the oil and found no evidence of any coolant in it. This is fantastic! Won't know more until later, but it looks as if two head gaskets is all I need.
1999-2002 N/A 2.5L models (which the factory acknowledged had head-gasket issues) were covered for 8/80 on the engine with the use of Subaru coolant-conditioner. Did you use that conditioner? If so, even though it is now past the time- limit, perhaps you can recover at least some of the cost if you can show (or document) that the problem started before the 8 years were up.

Congrats!!

Looks like you got the full package! Basically you get the power of WRX with out the boy racer look. IMO the Legacy probably has the best interior out of all Subies.
