Default Cadillac will drop DTS or STS

Cadillac will drop DTS or STS

Posted on 05.15.2007 04:00 by Simona Alina

General Motors has announced that the future for Cadillac involves a vehicle smaller than the CTS sedan and one large sedan, meaning GM will drop the DTS or STS.

The DTS, a successor to the DeVille, is built in the Detroit-Hamtramck, Mich., plant on the front-drive G architecture. The STS is built in the Lansing, Mich., Grand River Assembly plant on the rear-drive Sigma architecture.

"Generally, you’ll see kind of a smaller Cadillac entry — something less than the CTS, something around the CTS and something bigger than the CTS. That’s the product direction that we’re moving toward," said Clarke to Automotive News.

GM will likely build variants of future models, such as convertibles and coupes, to fill other product slots. GM has shown a wagon version of the CTS, but Clarke would not confirm whether GM will buid it.

If they HAVE to drop one... I say drop STS. Cadillac needs to pay homage to their heritage... they cannot have a line-up without something nice, floaty, and plush (are you going to expect coachbuilders to make Limos out of STS's now??).

Drop the DTS, and expand on the STS. The STS is a fine platform, and it sells.

And whatever that concept is up there.. I really like it.

That concept is the production CTS coming real soon now.

On the DTS vs. STS debate I'd vote for dropping them both and bringing back a "throwback" big floaty RWD platform.

Except for the fact that Cadillac sells twice as many DTS's as they do STS's.

They should keep the CTS and STS where they are, and move the DTS upmarket. It's kind of in no man's land right now, the only cars it really competes with are the Lincoln Town Car and the STS

I don't see why Cadillac would need a car beneath the CTS, they should have learned from the Catera and Cimmaron

since no one has even discussed the 'smaller than CTS' car, i'll start that up.

it's called the BLS and its super cute, they've had it in europe for a while now. it competes w. the 3series, is, c-klasse, etc.

as far as STS v. DTS, i like the STS more than the DTS, so i'd rather they keep the STS; but logically if they're going to drop one, it should be which ever sells less.

Get rid of the DTS. The best sedan lineup for Cadillac is something similar to BMW:

BLS = 1-Series
CTS = 3-Series
STS = 5-Series
(DTS = Not good enough to be similar to the 7-Series)
Upcoming concept V12 Caddy = 7-Series

The BLS is garbage. It's a re badged Saab 93, it has no place in Cadillac's lineup

Make the CTS compete with the 5 series class of cars....it really floats between the 3 and the 5 and needs to be better defined. Smaller than CTS to compete with the 3 series class. Combine the best of the STS & DTS for a 7series class size competitor.

Really? Thats shocking to me. I imagine people who purchase the DTS to be MUCH older than STS. Hums. Maybe the Buick group has come to Caddy. hehe.
